A number of members have informed us that they've received PMs (Private Messages) from individuals who are using this forum to promote their business. The messages are direct invitations to visit their commercial website. While there is nothing we can do to stop this practice, we can assure you that Talk of The Villages does not condone it. We think it's like spam, receiving unsolicited sales material.
We feel that our members should enjoy a certain amount of protection from such intrusion. We don't want you to be afraid to open a PM for fear that it is an advertisement. Your membership is valuable to us and we want you to rest assured that we strongly discourage people from using this system as an unpaid source of advertising.
We sell advertising space on the forum and that's how it is able to stay in business. I wonder if those who are sending the messages would allow us to send emails to their customers.
