Just curious. General blanket question. Not aimed at anyone. Would you invite into your home a person convicted of kiddie porn or traveling to have sex wth a minor? A home where your children or grandchildren visit and play.

Here we go again. Remember, we are the friendliest neighborhood in the USA!

The billboard says Florida's Friendliest Hometown.

Friendly means being warm and kind and welcoming.

I don't think it relates to not being aware of real danger.

Do you leave your doors unlocked even if we live in this (quite) friendly place????

Not sure how to feel about this. Everyone deserves a chance...but in my backyard.... I guess no visits of the grandchildren this year. Well I guess I do know how I feel about this, very sad.

You seriously wouldn't allow your grandchildren to come visit because of a sex offender in your neighborhood? Are they left unattended that much?
Not sure why you are in a panic over this one. You already had 3 sex offenders within a mile of you.

Please answer the three questions below;

Do you have Grandchildren?

Do you have Grandchildren?

I don't sense "panic". Child molesters can't be fixed to stop, so it is to everyone's best interest to be aware. It does change whether you let visiting children ride around the loop on your bike and who you invite to gatherings I would think. Why the hostile post?

I have been robbed by gun three times in a brief retail job some years back. The last time they walked us into a cooler at the end of a shotgun. So yes, wow armed robbery is a big deal to some of us. as to the pedophile part I want no part of him on my street.

No way. I also would not socialize with anyone convicted of multiple crimes against others or businesses.

The only issue I have is that there are 3 pages of Villagers listed on the sex offender registry but the others do not get publicized in the paper so people have no problem with them ? You just need to keep aware of the registry if you are having your grandkids etc come to visit since there is no law against them moving into your neighborhood.

The only difference between TV and any other neighborhood is that we have a newspaper that reports every infraction of the law. You might be surprised about who lived near you in the past. No, I don't want to be best friends with this guy but I am glad I know who and where he is. I know some of the best parents who have the worst kids. I know some of the worst parents who have some of the best kids. Don't judge because you don't know the whole story. If you live near or meet this guy, be aware of his past.

A pedophile is someone attracted to children under the age of twelve. Gender of the child is usually irrelevant. A sex offender could have been caught urinating in public or having consensual sex in public. In this case, he was in his early twenties and had had sex with a female between the age of twelve and fifteen. I'm hoping that the girl was fifteen, not twelve, but we have no way of knowing that without the court records. Sadly, not that uncommon for a young man to be dating a young teenager. So, to me, his sex crime is the lesser issue -- his armed robbery convictions are far more worrisome.

Here's hoping he has gone to his parents to start a new life and that he has a chance to do so.

Common sense is the result of years of observing and making your own mistakes. Compassion is good and misplaced compassion divides our country. RickeyD is right about work, but so many times I will see people arrested for crimes and I will think...why didn't they just get a job and buy a respectable life??? Some of the answers are selfishness, lack of respect for others, and laziness. I am beginning to think that NOTHING will change their attitude and their actions. EVER.

I think to be informed, upset and angry that undesirables are living among us is a necessity. Who says you have to be the Worlds Friendliest Town and "welcome" the depraved. Immorality is not a one shot deal. You have to think that way and maybe there could be redemption for behavior but time will tell and you certainly shouldn't have to be friendly and welcoming.

Exactly.

All one needs to do is to put their address in the 'neighborhood search' portion of this site....and it will show all of the offenders that are near you.

He was mentioned in the site that must not be named.

I do not think there is any more to it than that.

Some people can be reformed through prison. I met a few of them when I was a student then Student Director of Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners for the Minnesota Correctional Facility-- Stillwater. There were only a few of these though IMHO. Rehabilitation is possible though given the right circumstances like family, friends, religion and the like.

If you use the neighborhood search and choose 'map' or 'list' from my FDLE link, it not only gives you their address...but also shows a photo of each and every one of them.

So showing a photo of them...isn't something new.

I'm not so sure. Wasn't voluntary chemical castration offered years ago for offenders.

Chemical "castration" is something that is often offered up as an alternative to locking up an offender (usually the "defense" makes the offer). When people hear "castration" they tend to think it's a tough punishment that'll teach the offender a lesson and prevent any further acts.

Actually, it's not much of anything. Does Chemical Castration Help Child Sex Offenders Control Their Urges? (http://www.medicaldaily.com/chemical-castration-sex-offenders-386339)

It's not uncommon to read about a rapist who was "chemically castrated" but decided he didn't like it and stopped treatments.

Maybe, but I still think another agenda is at play here.

It's just a shame that there is no Megan's Law equivalent... for looking up felons of violent crimes.

Especially given our older demographic, I would think it would be even more applicable.

If you already know the name or address of a suspected felon you might find them in the link below, but there is no neighborhood database (that I've been able to find)...that's let's you see where they might be living around you.

Yes, but I would not leave them alone together until I knew all of the facts. There are all types of crimes that will get a person on the state sexual offenders list. It may be as simple as being drunk and urinating in an alley; it may be hooking up with a prostitute who lied about her age; it may have been a case of "he said - she said"; or it might have been an actual sexual crime.

Sometimes pedophilia is referred to when people are under 18. Not always just prepubescent.

Sometimes pedophilia is referred to when people are under 18. Not always just prepubescent.

Pedophilia is defined both legally and psychologically as having an interest in having sex with a child under the age of twelve. Pedophiles rarely care about the gender of the child, just that the child is prepubescent. A sexual predator will groom someone, usually under the age of 18, for sexual encounters. Again, we really don't know enough to label this guy as anything more than a sex offender.

And, again, I would be very leery of this man for the simple fact that he has been convicted of armed robbery. That, to me, is far more dangerous.

And, for those who asked, yes, I would invite a convicted sex offender into my home. It depends on the circumstances -- a 19 YO convicted of statutory rape with his 16 YO girl friend or a guy busted for urinating in public or someone arrested for having sex in a car. Those folks would be welcome. The guy who seeks out a teen advertising online, nope, not welcome. A pedophile or a sexual predator not even not welcome into my home but not worthy of even a friendly greeting on the street.
