The administrators of Talk of The Villages would like to ask a big personal favor of our members.

As you know, this site is thriving because of all of the wonderful posts and input from our active members. Without your posts, there would be nothing to read or respond to.

Our little corporation, Community Forums LLC, has begun an expansion project. Our first new forum has gone online in another Florida community and we kindly request your help. The new forum is in Plant City, Florida and is called, PlantCityForum.com (http://www.plantcityforum.com). Right now, very few people know about it, but they will soon be logging on to check it out and they will need something to respond to.

Heres what we would like to ask. Please go to PlantCityForum.com (http://www.plantcityforum.com) and register as a member. Look through the forums and post some topic that will encourage others in that community to jump in and reply. We realize that most of you will not likely continue as active members there, but some might. In any case, your registration and posting of a comment or question will inspire locals to join in.
We would deeply appreciate any help that you would be willing to offer in this project. Thanks in advance to those who are willing to help us out.
Eventually, we hope to have a nationwide network of forums that will all tie back to the first one, Talk of The Villages.

For those who are not aware, Plant City is where your strawberries come from. It's a wonderful, home town type of community.

Thanks again,

Where is this? It seems vaguely familiar from the Tampa Bay area news broadcasts. I seem to remember a lot of railroad crossing accidents around Plant City?

Tal, I pass the Plant City exit on the 75S when I'm heading down to Bradenton or Sun City to see my family. I actually haven't visited that city yet but that's the general direction it is in. Hope this helps. Kath

Here's some information about Plant City for others like me who are unfamiliar with it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_City,_Florida

It looks like their Strawberry Festival gets some big name country acts. http://www.flstrawberryfestival.com/

KathieI,

Stop off in Plant City next time you go by and seek out Parksdale Farm Market for a strawberry shortcake you will never forget!:eclipsee_gold_cup:

Awwww, Dirigo, your making my mouth water, but I just posted on that forum that I'm allergic to strawberries, but they always look so pretty to me. I'll just eat the shortcake, how's that. Thanks for the link.

Anyone else having this problem? http://www.plantcityforum.com/forums/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=2

Really do not have much to say about Plant City though as I have never been there.

I was wondering how Plant City got its name?

I was wondering how Plant City got its name?

Named for Henry Plant, a railroad guy.

When do they blossom and for how long? I may get to Plant City sometime in May and would like to know if the season extends to May.

Still having trouble posting on PlantCityForum.com so I will ask this on here.

I just posted and didn't have a problem. Cabo I see you just joined, but Helene I don't see you on the membership list. Maybe you need to reregister.

Same here. I'll try again.

Still the same message as above. The site welcomes me as cabo35 and suggests I am logged is as "log out" tag is active.

Oh, I think I know the reason... if you registered from the link that TH gave you, it is an admin link, I THINK?? The same thing happened to me so I connected to the forum directly rather than the link and then registered. Try that and see if it works. My thought was that I was in an admin link and that's why I wasn't allowed to post.

If I solve this, I will be totally amazed!!:22yikes: :faint:

I had to really search for Plant City on my FL map..... it's west of Lakeland and looks like a very small town. I was just wondering why you didn't choose a much larger city like perhaps Lakeland for a forum, from a business point of view?

Anyway, I'll be glad to join your new forum - I was interested in Lakeland as a relocation destination, before I learned about TV.

You post a good question. Plant City is a very tight knit community. It appealed to us because of its unique nature. Everybody knows everybody. There is a very active chamber of commerce, the high school students still call adults "sir" and mam". There is a huge Future Farmers of America club, the growers are enormous supporters of the community. Recently there was a $100 a ticket fundraiser sponsored by Plant City Rotary Club. There were 1,300 people in attendance. (I was there) That's $130,000 raised by by Rotary for that little community. We plan to expand to other cities, like Lakeland. We have a very good experience in The Villages with TOTV, but it's not a city like Plant City and we want to get our feet wet first. Eventually, we plan to have forums like these in communities all across North America with the opportunity for each of them to be independent entities, but with the option for members to tie to each or any of the other community forums. It will be a huge community forum network.
We really appreciate your participation in TOTV and your interest in our overall project.

I think these forums provide an excellent public service to the communities plus valuable information to wannabees (like me). There is an excellent local forum for my town if you or anyone is interested or curious :

I'm so busy with TOTV and a couple other forums I like, most of the time I forget to check on my local one

I went through the e-mail from the PlantCityForum e-mails already to activate a few days ago when I first went on PlantCityForum.
