View Full Version : To All Political Posters

A required security software update has unexpectedly caused threads intended for the Political Forum to show up on the main board, including posters' IDs instead of "Guest". When the Political Forum was reinstated, threads in that section were to not appear on the main board and all posters were to be identified as Guest. In addition, no moderation was performed in that section.

In order to keep political threads off the main board, and protect members' identities, moderators at this time will be hiding all such threads. This action will prevent those threads from appearing in both the main board and the Political Forum. Until such time as this is resolved, it may be best to withhold posting new threads or responses in the Political Forum as they will not be visible.

OK, that explains it!

Thanks for letting us know.

If I'm reading you correctly though, when things get worked out the forum will go back to everyone being a 'guest'...without user names?

If so, that's a shame, because for a brief period...it was actually becoming civil there. :(

:agree: Without user names, insults and derision will be the norm.

Several years ago there was a political forum on TOTV with regular user IDs. And the political forum was visible to all, IIRC. It was discontinued because of the nastiness sme posters exhibited. But, IMO, the primary reason was that the vitriol spilled over onto the main board. Posters with opposing political beliefs would respond to each other in non-political threads with snide, political posts that highjacked the thread. So, it disappeared.

There was a lot of clamor for the return of a political forum and what we have now is the result. I guess hiding it was done to satisfy those who wanted it gone, and using guest ID was to reduce spilling over into other threads.

Those of us that conduct civil discourse would not be overly concerned about the username identity. and it really doesn't matter to the aforementioned if Political Talk is on the main board or off. But we do desire the opportunity to discuss with others our thinking on the state of the union. TOTV thank you for providing that opportunity

OK, that makes sense.

It is certainly apparent how some can't help but carry their animosity into the main board, once they know someone who doesn't share their political opinion...as I've experienced it myself by choosing to sign my political posts.

I can also see how it would be an additional burden on the moderators to have to constantly keep that from happening, but showing user names in that forum...does seem to slow down the really nasty & vulgar posts.

Darned if you do...danged if you don't.

Thanks for the history on it though.

Keep using the names
if people say something they should not be afraid to have their name on it
and be asked to back up what they post

I agree.

Even if it doesn't happen though, I have to say it was pretty darned funny watching the pure panic of some folks...when they realized that they were no longer anonymous. :D

Trolls do not like being outed so to speak. I would like the real names showing up on all posts after that is known as the rules of the game.

The user name still shows up on the Political Forum. You can see who posts what right now.

And the people are being a lot more cautious about what they post. Me too.

Does this mean we can't locker room talk anymore?

You'd be in mixed company including some people of the Lesbian/Gay/Bi-Sexual, and Trans variety. And straight women as well.
