You have to be quick .... get a larger plastic container, like a Tupperware, like I said, you have to be quick, quickly place it over the gecko and then get a piece of paper, 8" x 11" works great, as long as you container isn't THAT big, and slide it under, trapping the little guy. Walk it outside and let him go.

OK, yes the cat works, ours love to chase them when they get into the lanai/birdcage. But on a more serious note, I would try using a clear Tupperware or similar plastic container to see if you can trap the Anole (real name) on the floor or wall. If you can do this, than get a piece of stiff but thin cardboard (like the backing on a table of paper), and slide this between the container and the floor or wall. With any luck your will have the Anole in the plastic container and you can take outside and release.

One place we lived, we had a small moth problem...big problem, small moths...in our kitchen. We didn't want to use pesticides because of all the surfaces that our food touched. So, we went to the exotic pet store and bought a Madagascan Day Gecko and let him loose in the house. Bob took care of the moth problem and lived with us for quite a few years. It was always a quick wake up when he was in the shower!

Due to the hurricane, I brought all my plants into the house and consequently, the gecko's came with them. You have to be fast, but I stalk them until I can grab them with a rag, but don't squeeze too tightly, and carry it back outside. Sometimes their tails come off but that's okay, they can live without them, I think.
Don't rely on dogs or cats, they only want to play with them. Good luck.

How do you capture and remove a gecko from our house?
I have a soft dish towel that is reserved for removing gecko's.
Gently cover the gecko with a soft towel, don't squeeze, and release it outside.
Gecko's are our friends.

I try to shew them out the door with a broom. When that doesn't work, I take my leaf blower on high and blow them out of my garage or lanai!
If they are in my house, I put it on low and blow them out from under furniture and out the door!
I try hard not to blow pictures off the wall ............ And this works! I always get rid of them quickly.

I was recently able to get two gecko's out of the lanai by using a small pillow. If they are hanging on the screen, move the pillow near them and they will attach themselves to the pillow. Then shake the pillow outside and they are on their way. Good Luck!

How do you capture and remove a gecko from our house?
I bought a goldfish net for catching and releasing anoles, but it took over a year for me to successfully catch my first one. They are way too fast!

Just the other day I opened the front door and sure enough a little baby anole found his way in. We had him cornered at one point and then he disappeared. So, there is now a baby anole in here somewhere. I guess I'll find him when I find him. I now have put those sticky pads that Massey gave me out by my front door to catch them before they run in my house. They work.....

They may work, but why kill a gecko? They won't hurt you.
There are lots of humane options, including the one above by OCsun.

Usually our cat are chasing it out of the house and let them alive after the first experience catching and eating it with the result that she threw up several times.

You can purchase plugins that emit a high pitched sound that can't be heard by your pets. The are old 4 to a pack( we got ours in Walmart) We plugged one in on our patio and in the garage. Prior to using them, we were getting geckos in the house about 4-5 times a week. My 2 cats loved it but they are difficult to catch. The plugins worked. We've only had one since June. The geckos are good to have around the outside. They eat the bugs; but we would rather they don't reside with us. :)

Throw a waste basket (with an even...not fluted...top) on top of it. Have on hand a magazine or newspaper and when you hear the anole leaping around inside the waste basket, quickly pick it up and slap the magazine on top and head for the outdoors for release. Very easy procedure, I've done it often.

How do you capture and remove a gecko from our house?
Keep the doors shut! I've never had them in the house, because I'm very careful about leaving doors open. But if you want to get rid of them buy some Tomcat Glue Traps & set them in the room where they are at along the wall. I caught 5 in one trap in my lanai. Believe me if they stick one hair size toe in it, they're stuck! Doesn't hurt to try it & the traps are cheap.

how do you capture and remove a gecko from our house?
Throw a soaking wet facecloth or paper towel over the gecko
and scoop it up and throw it outside. The gecko can't run out of the soaking wet facecloth.

First of all, they aren't geckos, they are anoles. Second of all, shame on all of you who recommended glue traps, that's cruel. Good grief.
They aren't that hard to catch and put back outside, or just ignore them, they got in..... they'll get out. You live in Florida, they are part of the Florida experience.

Did you ever have to supplement Bob's diet or did he just fend for himself? How about water?
I was going to tell the original poster that having a lizard in your house is not necessarily a bad thing. They love to eat bugs and they're "all natural". :icon_hungry:

Agree about the glue traps. If they stay inside long without insects or flies they will bcome dehydrated and die. Try to put them outside.

Geckoes won't hurt you. No need to recommend cruel glue traps. :ohdear:

Leave a little trail of dead bugs that leads right out the partially opened back door.

That's an excellent idea!
However, it will be an economic negative for the handymen I employ after I try to scare them out the door... by shooting my Glock right behind their tails.
