Which way up??? or down!

OK, so I went out today to buy my St. Joseph Statue. Some people told me to bury him head first facing the road, others told me to bury him head up facing the house, does anyone know the real deal????

I dont know the answer to your question, but will be curious to see the replies lol. I have also heard to bury and old doll for luck in selling our home, not sure which direction tho lol. We've sold numerous houses over the years and I've always buried good ol' St. Joe. I was told, and always have, buried him upside down facing the direction we've wanted to move. I put the statue in a plastic baggie so it doesn't get wet or dirty.

Once you are in your new home, you are to place him in a place of importance. He always gets a nice spot in my kitchen, the heart of our house, usually on the window sill over my sink. In our present home, we don't have a window over the sink, so he's sitting on the countertop near the phone - a pretty good spot, all things considered.

I understand from others that now you can buy a 'kit' with the statue and instructions at Christian bookstores and the like. I don't know what the instructions will tell you to do, but the method I just explained has worked for us for over 35 years.

I took the cheap way out and bought the 99cent statue that didnt come with instructions. at 99 cents a piece, I like your thinking. Ill go back tomorrow and spend another 4.00 dollars and get 4 more statues. I would have spent that on the kit that came with instructions. But I just knew yall would come up with some winning answers.

If you bury 5 of those things in 5 different directions, don't blame me when you sell and then you don't know which way to go! (LOL) ;)

I hate to throw a damper on things, but I think part of the whole gist of this endeavor is that you actually have some faith that burying St. Joe is going to help you. I think it started as kind of a Catholic thing and then spread to the multitudes.

Then when you sell you have to dig up all 5 and put them in places of honor in your new home.

Somebody posted last sumer that they forgot to retrieve St Joe and the house kept selling every 6 months or so. (LOL)

And you have to say the required prayer before you bury him.

(I'm out to buy a St Joe this week-end!)

I bought a St Joseph statue at a real estate supply store. It came with instructions that said not to bury it but to place him in a prominent place in the house say the appropriate prayer and believe.
Well it took about a year but I did sell. I didn't know what to do next, but I was so happy to sell that I gave him the grand tour of Colorado. I took him on rides on my Harley, took him fishing, took him to Austin Tx, took him everywhere from contract to close and still carry him around even though I live here now. I figured... can't hurt. Now I have 2, one was a gift. But I hope he doesn't sell my house in TV, I just got here.

We have sold many homes in the past. One thing that helped tremendously was getting rid of all the personal clutter. We made our house into a model home. Everything was packed up in the garage or storage. 3 times we sold after the first showing that first week. I guess they call it staging. We did it all ourselves. I'm looking out the back door at the burial plot right now. I didn't know there was a right way or wrong way to plant him. Now I'm paniced to dig him up or leave him! It's been three weeks and I was wondering if I needed to pass the collection plate more vigorously or just say another act of contrition?
Maybe I'll just pray over my favorite red wine and hope for the best.
Just kidding, hey I went to catholic high school I know you can't dig them up.

I cant get rid of the clutter in my house because if I take the pictures off the walls you will see the huge cracks in the walls. In fact my clutter hides all the flaws in this old house. It was built in 1869 and I think in this case its better to leave the clutter, it goes with the house! LOL
But I know in most cases that is what really sells a house. This is an unusual case and its going to take someone as weird as I was to buy it!!!

Just a note for those of little faith. You do not have to believe. You do not have to be catholic. In fact, you can even be an atheist. What you need to do is follow the rules or instructions. There is great range of what is the right way. Your intent is paramount. Once you have followed the steps you can forget about it and expect it all to work and it will.

Oh Linda, you are right, of course. But Nonie's home is very unique. Not a subdivision home. And you are talking to Nonie, the biggest kitsch collector of all time. We have suggested to her so many times that a room filled with a multitude of doilies is not a good selling tool. Nonie getting rid of personal clutter? Not happening.

But Nonie does own a charming century home and I'm sure that a lot of her unique possessions will add to the charm. And that it will appeal to someone with similar tastes. I think it will sell quickly now that she has lowered her price.

I have St. Joe buried facing the road that would bring buyers to the house. That was what I was told to do, but that is not the direction that we are moving. Maybe I should plant one in the backyard facing south?

Dont be like me ...I buried St Joe but I must have pointed him at my neighbors house for his sold way before ours!! I also think you have to pray alot, cross your fingers/toes or whatever else you think brings you good luck.
