I know that there is a huge retired military presence in The Villages. I have an active military visitor coming soon and I would like to share with him facts/info about this aspect of The Villages. If you know of any stats or interesting info about anything The Villages military related, I would love to hear it. One of the "facts" I heard at a new resident meeting was that 70% of Villages residents are connected in some way with the military (service or family member in the military at some point etc.) Not sure if that's correct or not. Of course, I can't wait to take him to Eisenhower Rec Center.

I think the largest American Legion post in the world is in Lady Lake and has a large number of Villages residents.

Obviously no one organization is perfect. However my voluntary enlistment helped me focus turning my life around. I met some great guys in the military . I can understand why men and women chose the military as a career.

Spent 22 years in the military. Best move of my life. Many good years, many bad days, like any other job. This is a great place for retired military. ONLY negative is we are not near a military base to take advantage of commissary and other benefits. Overall your military friend will like it here.

Not everyone in his age group was drafted, my draft lottery number was 265, which meant I would never get drafted. Since there was a war going on, I enlisted. The military is only what you make out of it, for some that's not very much.

You are dead wrong with your opinion of the military. The men and women of all branches are under extreme pressure to do their assigned duties. The military of today is far different than the military of the past. The constant deployments to various parts of the world, families being separated, benefits being reviewed and cut, health care etc.
Obviously not all military members are affected but a very large portion of them are. Moral is way down due mainly by the current administration...Moral is Key !! Our military is the very, very best...it is a shame that you regard the military as not great,a real shame.
You may want to take a walk through the local VA Hospital sometime.:plane:
