No. It is against deed restrictions for children under the age of 19 to live in The Villages. There are separate Villages for families, but I think you know that. You are a very aware poster who is fair and smart.

No. It is against deed restrictions for children under the age of 19 to live in The Villages. There are legal teeth to deed restrictions. In nine years I know of NO children living with anyone in The Villages. Where in the world did you get a number so high?
Does this restriction apply to renters as well as owners - both long and short term?
I have heard of minor children living with grandparents on the historic side - with school bus stops at some of the gates.
This would be one of those complaint driven restrictions- and even though it is against deed restrictions, some neighbors would have a very hard time dropping a dime on neighbors who are helping family members in dire need.

This is an excellent question. Personally, I truly feel for the disabled adult children who have no choice but to live with their parents. I am concerned about the convicted felons, sex offenders and substance (both legal and illegal) abusers who return to live with mom and/or dad and commit crimes, cause disturbances and otherwise negatively impact the lives of others within The Villages.

There are always choices. ALWAYS. Not convenient or easy but we know the rules when we move here.

I wouldn't consider 19 and over children and they are perfectly legal living in The Villages.

I doubt if we cause more trouble than some of the Seniors in the Villages. In the eleven years, we have been in the Villages I have probably met about a dozen other adults who are staying here in the Villages with their parents. And there are a very wide range of reasons for these people being at home with their parents. Always paint with a narrow brush when talking about complicated individual situations.

We refer as our son or daughter. Since either of them in their 30s and 40s can afford a house here and a house in another state, they don't need to live with me. Your reference of children for me as one who are school age, my daughter has children, but soon to be young adults. So is you children question under 18 years old? or how many money savvy young adults live here because they can.

Your original question first asked how many children are living in TV and after some asked for clarification you only want to know about "children" over age 19. Children under 19 are not allowed to live in TV. Period. Your answer is zero.
"Children" over age 19 are considered adults and can live in TV. I am not aware of any stats on how many actually live here because I don't care. If adult children are living in The Villages I am sure their parents have a good reason for it.
I understand how to reply to a question if someone asks me how many children I have. I have two. Thanks.
By your generic use of of the word "children" it does beg further questioning. You use children and adults as synonymous. Answer How many children enlist in the Army? I would say none. You would say anyone over age 19 is still considered a child so children can enlist in the Army.
You would also say having sex with a 19 year old is having sex with a child, based on your use of "children". Case open...

My guess would be children or adults over the age of 19 living in TV would be less than .5%. Population is just over 118,000. This seems to be the exception and not the rule in that almost all children/adults, are self sufficient.
Some people take care of their children/adults because they may have special needs of financial problems and are trying to get their life in order.
Fortunately, compassion never goes out of style. IMHO

Our sons have come here to stay many times, and would never turn them down. Our oldest two are doctors, and have considered moving here full time, only reason they would stay with us is to find a house in TV that was the right fit for them. Ya know pool or no pool, course view, or water view. But if for some tragic turn of life I would never turn our sons away. Now our daughters sense of humor is a combination of both of us. That could be a challenge.

There have been quite a few posts on adult children and, as we all know, there is nothing to stop them from moving in with parents or buying a home of their own in The Villages.
We also all know that minor children cannot live here according to Deed Restrictions. How does this affect either long or short term renters? Who checks to see if renters have minor children with them?
I remember a thread of a few years ago that talked of school kids were living in The Villages on the historic side. The thread even had photos of kids beings picked up by school busses at Villages gates.

Yes there are children living in the villages, school age children. We live on the old side and there was a whole family living with grandparents for over two years. The Village developers put up a beautiful home right next to them and it wasn't long after that, that the family was gone. It is unfair as I believe you can rent to whoever and they can have children. They can not be throw out if they have a lease signed in good faith. So yes renters can have little children in their houses but owners are only suppose to have for 30 days. The way around this is just to say you babysit them for the day.

We have been Tutoring children in the Elementary School in Lady Lake. There are so many children that need help in reading and math. It is incredibly rewarding to do this, to work one on one or two persons with two children and meet with them once or twice a week and to see them grow as you develop ways to help them learn. We are retired teachers, but you do not have to be a teacher. It is a great experience, it costs you nothing and you will probably see what we found, the Children and the Teachers really need your help and they are very grateful. You can make your own schedule with the teachers. It can even be fun.

The age restriction is a deed restriction, not a lease agreement.

I really love my kids (age 24 and 21 not living at home), but I would never move young children to The Villages (retirement community!)...so they have to act like illegal aliens.
What you described (the family that violated the covenants) is probably a strong reason the developer has been buying up the old trailer homes (low enough value that people that have a tenancy to violate rules can afford) and building new more expensive homes in their place (running off the pit bull dogs, golf cart grave yards, bust outs). Good people don't want to live near bad people...

Back to OPs original question. Do you mean under the age of 18 how many live here. Or is the question how many live here over the age of 19. My cousins two daughters both over the age of 19 have lived here for over 10 years.
I know GG has a daughter that lives with them too. Why such a concern over people who have young adults living with them who may need their help with care or other issues. Not all over the age of 19 are bad people that live here. Just curious as to the balance of age.?
When we fill out our surveys is the question on our surveys of ages in the house ? I don't remember.

I read the online paper & The Sun and let me say this. Yea there are young adults living here that get in trouble but lately there have been quite a few older people getting in trouble also. As for outside TV kids we have no control over them period. Have you looked at rents in the area ? Kids living with their parents in TV in some cases is a necessity for both the parents and the child. With the amount of people living in TV growing on a daily basis I think our troubles are very small compared to the surrounding area.
As for sex offenders and the likes look online most are older people.

Thank you for pointing this out. Our Helene has Williams Syndrome and has retired after a long career working at McDonalds. She is 52. (Her father and I are 39. Thanks for the clarification. At this time I do not believe that there is an official count of how many adults over the age of 19 live in the villages.
TV would know how many hold resident passes if they live here permanently. I believe the GGs daughter has a blue residence pass that is good for three years as does my cousins daughters, but I could be wrong.
I'm pretty sure that the villages has an account for all passes but it is just not posted. As I stated before I don't remember if ages were put on our surveys but I don't think that information is posted either. That does not count the 19 plus olds that have temporary IDs and how long they stay for since you can renew every 30 days.
So not sure you will ever have an exact answer, just speculation.

Two wonderful posts that make the combination of kids and parents a great team.
Without knowing the number, I know there are many more young adults in this same situation, living under one roof with their parents.
I truly feel that they contribute to the betterment of the community.
Instead of all the nay sayers bitching and moaning, get out there and do something constructive.

Dr. Scholl's makes toothpaste now. It's for people who live with their foot in their mouth. It's always better to live and let live. How did this go from a question about a number to answers naming people? Situations may look the same but there is always little details like ownership that throw a monkey wrench in the works! Sorry for the mixup I thought in a post from you long ago that you said the villages gave your daughter a blue residence pass, and she was so proud to use it. But I did say I could be wrong. I was just pointing out that there are well respected young adults that live here and and many people enjoy the fact that they do. I always enjoy the posts on how proud you are when you post about your daughter.
