Today at about 8am the police, in force were on Amaya Ave in The Village of San Pedro.

Apparently they were looking for a woman who has been wanted for "Over 25 years" according to a man with U.S. Marshals identification on his vest.

There is no Sumpter County.

It is just a little spelling mistake. No big deal.

After about 45 minutes inside. Just yesterday there were three County Sheriff vehicles at the same address.

Sure sure....no "pee"....

They didnt say much. I was in a cart on the way from Rio Grande - next thing we know GI Joe is there taking cover behind a tree - Sheriff SUV and a ton of what looked to be private vehicles in the road. More marked squad SUV's around the corner.

After a while the troops in full SWAT attire came from the Villa and they were all on phones/radios and removing their helmets and vests.

I asked one of the men if that was "our neighborhood meth lab" and he replied - "no, but we have been looking for that woman for over 25 years". He turned and his kevlar vest had US Marshals in large letters on the back.

I never did see anyone removed from the Villa - but they had everyone out of visual range of the front door and real action (everyone being myself, my cart mate and a man who was ducking behind a tree).

That is a smoked bison bone that she stole from her ex-boyfriend (he was a 130lbs Rottweiler)...

Any more info on this? Maybe she's been wanted for 25 years for putting the "p" in Sumter?

Other site says she's in custody.

They were looking for 59-year-old Janice Kay Du Bois of The Villages.

She was wanted on a warrant out of Michigan charging her with home invasion.

After Du Bois was taken into custody, she was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.

You all know what I know. What is odd - the US Marshal that I spoke to said "they have been looking for 25 years" - that does not seem to match with the age of the woman (or the charge).

If I had to bet. She had signed up for something (Medicaid, Medicare, Insurance - all of whom now thanks to Obama verify you against a national crime database). My friend lives across the "villa" from the woman in the story and said she was very nice. Comments from others seem to mirror that.

The only thing that makes me think that maybe just maybe this is "that old" is the fact that a diligent Google search for the name and Michigan comes up with nothing, nada...a more "current" crime would probably put her on a local Crime Stoppers or some other site where she would be "Google-able".

If they have been looking for her for 25 years she was in her early to mid 30s when she committed the home invasion. That doesn't seem outside the realm of the age of someone committing home invasion. Its also possible she changed her name when hiding, so the name she uses now is not the name of the person they were looking for 25 years ago.

Maybe the Marshall told you that just to get rid of you........

I did a search for Michigan’s most wanted, figuring after 25 years she would qualify and I could search by picture and age not name. I found nothing. My conclusion is the US Marshal was blowing smoke.
US Marshal + Smoke = Washington

I will never cease to be amazed at the audacity of people..... why do they stop and gawk? How would you ever have the
nerve to ask a US Marshall (or whomever) what is going on? He is not allowed to answer that question and it none of your business. "they had everyone out of range of the front door" ... did that not tell you that you were not invited to the party.
I am a home health care RN and last weekend was signing a new pt up for care. Unfortunately, I had to call 911. The paramedics and EMT's arrived..... 6 in total, rushing into the house, stretcher and equipment and here comes 2 neighbors right thru the door with them, to see what is going on !!! I was incredulous. I, a medical professional, was back out of their way so they could handle the emergency, but the 2 people in their nightgowns/robes were right in the mix of things.
I know, I know..... don't "get your &*(^%$ in a wad"... we've all been watching these gawkers all our lives.... they will never MTOB !!!!

I am surprised that they needed that much personnel to apprehend the suspect. I would have thought 2 officers with guns could easily apprehend a 59 year old home invasion suspect.

Given the opportunity, the police tend to go WAY WAY over board. If she was "that" dangerous, a smart cop arrests her while she is giving tennis lessons in skimpy clothing with only a racket and a ball to "assault" them with...

My bet. She spends 2-3 weeks in a local jail being victimized by the natives. Seemingly Michigan has already agreed to extradite or Marshal's would not be involved. So, she is then flown (on ConAir) around the country for a week or more until she gets to some point in Michigan where she can again wait for transport for an unknown time to her final county destination.

THEN, after a few weeks/months she will have to retain council who will bring up a Statute of Limitations and the courts will decline prosecution.

So...she will be out weeks of her life. Be persecuted by people in The Villages for a situation we know nothing of. She will spend her life savings on legal fees (and transportation back to The Villages where she was respected and loved by her immediate neighbors).

Maybe, and grasping at straws...but, IF (big IF) the guy was not kidding about 25 years...this is a giant waste of tax dollars and a woman's life.

Mich. Comp. Laws 767.24
No statute of limitations: Murder, criminal sexual conduct in the 1st degree, violation of the anti-terrorism act, or violation of the explosives, bombs and harmful devices act that is punishable by life imprisonment
Criminal sexual conduct in the 2nd degree, 3rd degree, 4th degree, or sexual assault: within 10 years after the offense is committed or by the victim's 21st birthday, whichever is later. If DNA evidence is used, within 10 years after the individual is identified or by the victim's 21st birthday, whichever is later.
Kidnapping, extortion, assault with intent to commit murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, or 1st degree home invasion: within 10 years after the offense is committed
Identity theft: within 6 years after the offense is committed; or if identity of perpetrator is unknown, within 6 years after the individual is identified
All other crimes: within 6 years after the offense is committed

What is gained in the eyes of society? Some vengeful old farts who like to pass judgement on the internet not knowing the reality at hand? I sure dont know the story. I have seen comments on line (on other sites) where people call her everything but human.

Maybe I am wrong (and I am clear about that in my post). But, I kinda doubt it.

You should read some comments on some other sites. Maybe talk to her neighbors and friends (as I have being as our neighborhood garage sale was yesterday and EVERYONE defended her - if they knew her).
