As usual the media must find SOMETHING to be negative about. Let me tell you something - my 22-31 year old kids LOVE the villages and have said they all want to retire there. The future is of course uncertain, but no more so than anywhere else.

The article wasn't too bad and had some good. My kid wants to retire here also.
As far as the media goes, tomorrow's Gazette and the Tribune are going to find a lot of negativity. Out teams got creamed.

We feel extremely fortunate to have landed the house we did in the location we did, at the price we did. No complaining here. :pepper2:

My MIL visited us last year, then saw this article. She got a kick out of it, and she now has even more to talk about with her friends.

The article mentioned Andrew Bleeeekkkkkmannn of "Leisureville", (the book makes a good door stop).
Other than that, it was factual except population was off by 8,000 which indicates it was written awhile ago.

Actually, I am sick of articles mentioning Andrew Blechman. It was a mediocre book at best. They never mentions his other book from two years earlier: Pigeons -The Fascinating Saga of the World’s Most
Revered and Reviled Bird

I have no idea why they keep referencing and interviewing a guy who was here for one month EIGHT years ago. What does he have to say that is relevant to The Villages today? Even when he wrote the book he had an axe to grind beacause he was angry the older couple in his neighborhood moved here instead of staying and helping raise his children. He thinks the older people, who raised their own children and finally retire, should not have some fun before they depart this Earth. He considers them irresponsible unless they stay put and mentor up his kids. He also talks about Sun City in Arizona where they located out of school districts so they didn't have to pay school taxes. He never mentioned our local schools and all we have provided and continue to provide to our neighboring communities. OK, getting down from my soap box now.
