Can we be witnessing the first omens of death for Spanish Springs? First the developer's furniture store is scaled back and the name is changed. The beautiful sales office is also scaled back and moved to another location off the square. Bourbon Street is now closed. And along with the Main Street Bistro, will be just another empty restaurant building.
All the new building is south of 466, and soon 466A. Take a look at all the new growth around Lake Sumter Landing within the last 15 months.
Anyone who has been here for more than 3 years, remembers Spanish Springs in all it's glory. Please do not forget us folks north of 466.

I don't think SS is in any danger. The sales office has moved multiple times in the last 10 years. The sales office is usually located close to where the sales are taking place... only makes sense. And as far as Augustines, it was something else before Bourbon Street took it over. The resraurants will succeed and stay in business if they run them right. You can look at the restaurant failures over in Market Square for the same reason. There have been many. The folks that live near their square will generally frequent them more. Spanish Springs is a lot more quaint and cozy in my opinion than Market Square. I am not worried.

I also agree with Ooper.
We just moved all the way to the South Pole, Hemingway, and go to Spanish Springs whenever we have the opportunity.
Although Sumter Square is fun, SS has a lot more flavor and interesting people. We love it there.:pepper2::pepper2::pepper2:

For the benefit of us poor lowly "wannabee slobs".............. (just kidding) how about someone describe the difference between the two squares ? What stores and restaurants are located at each square? What is it about each square that makes it special? Stuff like that ....

In addition to what is shown on those pages:
LSL has a large Super Market, at the Lower end of Canal St.
SS has La Plaza Grande between 441 and Alvarez Ave to the South (left of the picture) that goes for about a half mile. Has two super markets, Large dept store - Belk's (my wife waits for our trips to TV to buy her clothes there because they aren't clothes for 20 somethings), Ace Hdwr, second bowling alley, Burger King, Applebys, Perkins, golf cart shop, large furniture store (owned by developer), AAA office, etc etc etc.
Adjacent to La Plaza and further South are large new strip malls with Home Depot, Sam's, Target, Circuit City (closed), Kohl's, Starbucks, Jo-Ann, Pier 1, Ross, Staples, Best Buy, half dozen resturants, etc etc.
We like both Squares. SS and 441 have many many more stores etc.
