We have a 1 year old top loading Samsung washing machine and it is one of the one's in the latest recall. We like the machine, but are afraid that if we get it fixed, it will still pose a danger of injury. The rebate they offer will not pay for a new machine of this level. They are only offering us $368 on a different machine or $468 on another Samsung. The repair will extend the manufacturers warranty by one year. Any others in my situation? Or any advice or which choice to make would be appreciated.

my wife has been following that issue for a number of months as we are in the process of replacing our washer and dryer. she wisely concluded that is it was best to purchase LG which are on order now to be delivered.

It is my round about way of saying take the money and by a different brand name.

The remaining issue is what do you do with the Samsung. If it poses a danger then should you simply have it trashed?

We had the same decision but are electing to get it fixed.
Our is almost 3 years old and they offered $156 towards another washing machine (or $256 if we buy a Samsung.)
I am confident that whatever the repair is, it will be fine afterwards. I think it's the replacement of support rod(s) and if that's the case, here's a video of the repair.

Washer Suspension Support Rod (part #DC97-16350C) - How To Replace - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc3BVNFmrUQ)

I've already notified them to set up an appointment for repair. If we didn't like the machine it would be a good opportunity to get rid of it. But we really like it.
Good luck!

We took the rebate and replaced with another samsung. We like the brand but our old machine did flood our house at one time. Glad to get rid of it. Samsung will reimburse a certain amount for disposal of the recalled machine. It is illegal to resell it.

We are also took their offer of $341 for a new Samsung. Home Depot is having a good sale on appliances so the sting wasn't too bad.

We had one less than a year old. They are giving us about $519 toward our new LG plus up to $25 to have the old one disposed of. You have to remove the serial # stickers and send them in with the rebate form. Home Depot charges $15 to haul away and dispose of the old one. It is itemized on the receipt so will be reimbursed. We have sent in the rebate form and await payment.

At one time there was a rule of thumb.... "If the appliance cost more than one third of what the appliance cost originally, replace it" I just followed this advice myself
with a GE Washer that was only 4 yrs light use.. mother board went out.. cost to replace $275 to $300. Just a suggestion.

Youtube shows the problem with the top loading Samsung, Nasty, I would cut it loose and let your next decision be guided by Consumer Reports. You can sign on for one month if you like and scan thru anything and everything for one month including washers for just $7.00 :$:. I have been guided by them for a lifetime and their approximate record is 75 purchases to the good and one real dud, it was a Sears Washer. We just got Samsung front loaders, highly recommended by us, thanks Consumer Report.

I did the one month subscription to consumer reports. They recommend a front loading washer. Any thoughts.

Samsung Washer Model 5200AP & Samsung Dryer Model 5200EP with the Pedestal's. They are highly rated, not number #1 but they appealed to us because of the finance deal also. 2 years interest free....I really didn't want to spend the extra money but Mrs Nucky wanted a Washer that would handle Comforter so if she's happy it's the bestest machine ever. Time will tell. The house we bought has some high end LG kitchen appliances, high end for LG but I have no faith in their longevity whatsoever.

We had a front loader for 2 years. Wife said it constantly had odor and had to be deoderized about every 2 weeks by running a cycle with the something she bought at the grocery store. She says this is a common problem with front loaders. We left the front loader behind when moving to TV and purchased a top loader (Samsung dang it). Just mailed in the rebate.

From what I understand the odor was from residual soap and moisture around the gasket on the door. The fix for a front loader I had about seven years ago was to wipe the gasket, leave the door open slightly and run a giant size pill on its own cycle once a month. It worked but it was a hassle. The new Samsung front loader washer is just great so far...it's early and it spins the clothes so dry it cuts the time in the dryer by a whole lot. Good luck.

The Samsung Rebate is because of what I would label a major flaw and instead of explaining try YouTube Samsung Top Load Washer. That should explain everything.

There was a class action lawsuit concerning the front load appliances that finally settled and why i can't give you details I suspect like all class actions the big winners were the lawyers.

We had always been big Samsung supporters. all of our TV's are Samsung and all of our appliances are new Samsung models.

However given the bad news about their washers and then their cell phones we decided to avoid them for our recent purchase.

the fact is in today's market appliances regardless of brand don't seem to hold up like they use to. so we did our due diligence and our research indicated LG somewhere at the top and given the know problems with Samsung and the known problems with GE, etc we opted for LG washer top load dryer gas

Their likelihood of survival is about equal to ours so its a wash (pun intended) :D
