For all you out of towners, it has rained steadily since early Sunday evening. I do not know the total rainfall at this hour but I'm sure someone does and will contribute to this topic. When one see's 149 folks online in TOTV, you can be assured it's raining and we all have cabin fever.
I won't complain too loudly for it was very much needed.

In my nearly four and a half years here, this is the only time that I can recall when we've had nearly constant rain for what is now approaching 48 hours! Sometimes it's heavy, sometimes it's light, and sometimes it isn't raining at all. But, the bottom line says, we've had a whale of a lot of rain, and right when that's exactly how much we needed.

I'm sure the golfers and other sports enthusiasts will become grumpy very soon. To them, I say, "Hang in there. This, too, shall pass!"

Although I am not in TV permanently yet, I am glad to hear about the much needed rain. Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end for the drought. Here in Oklahoma, we have had 22 (yep that's twenty-two) consecutive days of rain. Naturally, we're way above normal for the year. Of course, sping rain in Oklahoma also means tornados and violent thunder storms. I really can't wait to get to a place that thinks 2 days of rain is a lot. I'm also tired of our TV home caretaker telling me how dry everything is in TV. Hope to see lots of green (especially on the golf courses) when we visit next month.

I KNOW we need the rain and I Love seeing it BUT I had company arrive on Saturday evening---from Virginia---STUCK in a I95 accident for 2 hours---NO movement--out of the car and making friends with everyone---Finally arrived Sat evening around 8:30. Sunday was WONDERFUL---polo game, pool time, and then on to Sumter Landing to see entertainment----RAINED so much that we stopped at Waterfront Inn to get out of rain--enjoyed that time BUT since then NON stop rain---don't know what to do with company when we are ALL STUCK IN HOUSE. Did do the trolley ride today and then to Katie Belle's for entertainment. They will be here until Sat AM---Hope I can keep them fed, entertained, etc. All suggestions welcomed!!!!! I Love the Villages and know the RAIN is badly needed--I always make lemonade when handed lemons but hard to do when you have company. Any suggestions for rainy day activities would be greatly appreciated.

Sandy,

I believe Church on the Square has entertainment almost ervery night of the week. Also check your Daily Sun newspaper, it should give you some ideas.

If your company likes flea markets, there is the Markets of Marion Fridays thru Sundays. Savannah CC shows are worth checking out, There are movie theatres in both town squares, indoor exercise classes at the different country clubs, billiards, ping pong, and just for fun dance classes . The Thursday Daily Sun has a section that lists all the clubs classes, and indoor activities for the week. There seems to be something for everyone in this part of the newspaper.Hope this helps!

It really looked bad from space on the weather channel. All orange and it looked like it was circling. Well all seems O.K. this morning but I thought maybe you were getting strong winds. At least the wild fires are dampened and the ponds are getting filled and the aquafir should be filling as well. Maybe someday we can water more than once a week!

The rain is a blessing as it will help the aquifers. It may also keep the normal May-June Love Bug infestation under control. The longer you live here, the more you will see the great variety of weather cycles. In the "normally dry" January of 1998 right after Pete Wahl made the dry season is upon us proclamation, in his weekly Pete's Place Column in The Daily Sun, we had close to a month of torrential rains with ponds overflowing, streets closed and flooded homes and golf courses. TV has done great things since with the water management systems they've installed and we no longer see the flooding we had back then.

Lastly, one good thing about the rain, you don't have to shovel it out of your driveway.

Height above sea level is relavant but it seems more important is the ability of the local infrastructure to deal with the water. If you are 100' above sea level, but in a gully or depression anyway, you could still flood. In looking around here this week it is easy to see how carefully this place has been designed to deal with these monsoon-like rains. During the heaviest of rains, the drainage depressions between houses would fill up some, but they'd run off into the street, and then into the storm drains and then into the retention ponds. It's really a remarkable feat to be able to handle the amount of rain we've received (which I had guess was around 9" or 10" based on the news reports from Ocala and Leesburg - but will stand corrected that someone measured at 13"). This place is really well designed!

Since it started raining on Monday I've played 18 with a TOTV member on Monday. Went to downtown Disney for lunch, shopping and a movie on Tuesday since we had to go to the airport for a pickup. Went to a lunch gathering of friends on Wednesday along with a few games of bowling in SS. Did a full day of Sea World and Arabian Nights with my son and his girlfriend on Thursday.

The point is that there are always things to do in and around TV even when on a rainy vacation. We've had enough now though. It can stop for my last 9 days!
