That is one of reasons Obama replaced mad dog! Do you want us to go to war with Iran?????

Nice fear monger
Obama only wanted YES men around him!!!!
Pentagon insiders say that he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way -- not because he went all "mad dog," which is his public image, and the view at the White House, but rather because he pushed the civilians so hard on considering the second- and third-order consequences of military action against Iran. Some of those questions apparently were uncomfortable. Like, what do you do with Iran once the nuclear issue is resolved and it remains a foe? What do you do if Iran then develops conventional capabilities that could make it hazardous for U.S. Navy ships to operate in the Persian Gulf? He kept saying, "And then what?"
There is also a belief that Mattis and Obama differed on Iran. "A particular point of disagreement was what to do about mischief Iran is exporting to other countries. Mattis is indeed more hawkish on this than the White House was," writes Ricks in yet another post.
"National Security Advisor Tom Donilon in particular was irked by Mattis's insistence on being heard. I cringe when I hear about civilians shutting down strategic discussions. That is exactly what the Bush administration did in late 2002 when generals persisted in questioning whether it was wise to invade Iraq. That led to what some might call a fiasco."

His appointment sends a strong message.
What do you think our enemies are saying among themselves now?
Do you think Russia will do a flyby on one of our ships now?
North Korea?
Sure beats Obama bowing to everyone!!!!!

We will seee if Trump's advisors are doing him well.
I would like to think Trump would not offer up a candidate unless he was fairly certain the approval is reasonable to expect.
We shall see.
It would be nice if we Americans see the valid reasons for choosing him. And let our enemies fear the reasons why he should not be the nominee.
As for the nick name "mad dog" it has been written the only people he tolerates that name from are those under his command.

Mattis would also need a waiver from Congress in order to be confirmed.
he is not 7 years retired, but should be ez to get.
Mattis, 66, would join a Trump national security team that already includes retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as national security adviser and Rep. Mike Pompeo as CIA director.

His other nickname is "Warrior Monk" because of his extensive readings and lifelong study of the art of war etc. I think this guy is an outstanding choice for SecDef.

WWIII is nearer than I'd hoped...the chess pieces are moving. A big war is needed for the great financial reset that is desperately needed. Things will get ugly. Hope you enjoyed the good times. talk to your parents who went through WWII, they'll tell you...war sucks...even when it's being fought far away.

I would have suggested you retreat to a safe space at the Lifelong Learning College to learn how a strong military deters war but, unfortunately, that is no longer an option.

The waiver from the senate requires 60 votes. Trump's own senator Kristen Jillibrand will vote no.

I really don't know enough about this General to have an opinion but what does everyone think of a new war tax big enough to pay for the last 14 year effort in the middle east and while we are at it finish paying for the Korean and Vietnam conflicts we are still on the hook for. Maybe we could leave it for our grandchildren? Now that is a novel idea.

Johnson passed a 6% war surtax to pay for Vietnam in 1967, I believe. It was later repealed.

Sen Jillibrand said as soon as the speech was over that she could not vote yes. The GOP will need nine dem votes to pass this waiver. Sen Schumer needs to negotiate with GOP to see what he can get in return for providing those nine votes.

Actually, you all should read this FROM JANUARY 2013.
"Word on the national security street is that General James Mattis is being given the bum’s rush out of his job as commander of Central Command, and is being told to vacate his office several months earlier than planned.
Why the hurry? Pentagon insiders say that he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way — not because he went all “mad dog,” which is his public image, and the view at the White House, but rather because he pushed the civilians so hard on considering the second- and third-order consequences of military action against Iran. Some of those questions apparently were uncomfortable. Like, what do you do with Iran once the nuclear issue is resolved and it remains a foe? What do you do if Iran then develops conventional capabilities that could make it hazardous for U.S. Navy ships to operate in the Persian Gulf? He kept saying, “And then what?”
"Inquiry along these lines apparently was not welcomed — at least in the CENTCOM view. The White House view, apparently, is that Mattis was too hawkish, which is not something I believe, having seen him in the field over the years. I’d call him a tough-minded realist, someone who’d rather have tea with you than shoot you, but is happy to end the conversation either way."
The Obama administration’s inexplicable mishandling of Marine Gen. James Mattis | Foreign Policy (http://foreignpolicy.com/2013/01/18/the-obama-administrations-inexplicable-mishandling-of-marine-gen-james-mattis-2/)
This makes much more sense than all the conspiracy theories and the political intrigue.

Some of the best soldiers in Ancient Greece were gay because as lovers they had intense unit cohesion and would fight to the death. Sparta was finally defeated by the gay contingent of Thebans

So...the Greek government USED gays to their advantage...and got them slaughtered at the same time...ingenious! Let's make our military gay only and send them in WWI style!
The Great Ancient Greece is gone...so having gays in the military in the long run...didn't matter...did it? So there's no benefit from having gays in the population.
I do thank you though...your post made me google gays in the ancient Greek army.

Many Japanese samurai were also gay. Not that this has anything to do with the subject. I doubt if Mattis is gay, but that is a personal thing that should be kept personal and not flaunted about like many crazies with their deviant lifestyle. Apparently, regardless of sexual orientation, Mattis has a reputation for being an extraordinary leader.

Gillibrand was talking about Sec of Defense, who is required under federal law to be a civilian. This law has been on the books since 1947 and no waiver request has been made since 1950.
Democrats can prevent Mattis from getting the waiver, and therefore will not be confirmed.

Powell was retired. Mattis is retired. The rule is that he has to have left the service at least seven years, without a waiver. A waiver has been granted before, and it can be again. He is a civilian now so he is NOT military.
Time for the left to either get on the wagon or sit back and shut up. Either way is the "PC" way to handle the situation.

The George C Marshall waiver happened in 1950, when Harry Truman was president. A lot has changed since then.

The- thread is called Gen Miattis (mad dog) eager for confrontation with Iran. I believe in the phrase peace through strength. It seems to me counter-intuitive to allow nations who are clearly evil and aggressive to operate with impunity. 9/11 should have taught us a very important lesson. And the subsequent attacks in Asia, Europe, Africa and America on innocent people by these evil doers are not going away. Iran, is a sponsor of terror.
I believe the mistake we have made for a long time is ignoring our generals and trying to politically fight our wars.
If you objectively view Trump's choices he is making it clear to our enemy that the Obama strategy from leading from behind is over.
Trump by his own admission does not favor war but he is also a guy who deals in present realities
