We are hopefully going to purchase in TV possibly within six months. We are also considering purchasing a new car. We live in Taxachussetts and will pay 6.25% sales tax (new proposed sales tax rate coming this september) plus a excise tax every year for the "luxury" of owning a car.
Are we better off waiting to purchase and register the new car after we become FL residents?
Thanks

Depends on the County you will live in. Sales Tax vary from 6.5-7% on new cars. We don't have an excise tax but you do pay for registration each year. A call to County office where you will move to, can answer your questions.

Thanks for the information. So I assume there is no annual excise tax which in MA is $22.00 per $1000.00 of evaluation. What I am confused about is this>
If I pay the MA sales tax then move to FL do I have to pay the sales tax again when I register the vehicle?
This annual registration fee, is it based on evaluation of vehicle? If so what is the percentage?
Thanks again

If you own the car for more then 6 months or so you might not pay for the car tax in Florida But a Call to the County Tax office would be your very best thing to do also ask about all the forms that you may need from your old state. I my self had a new car about 8 months old and did not pay the tax only for the place 7 months as they expire on your birthday and not the end of the month like other states might do. Good Luck in about 2 hours my wife and I got our drivers lic, car Insurance, License plates, and Property Tax done
no lines that day and the nicest people I have ever dealt with in that type of business.
Just have all the require paper work. Call them now to find out

When I moved from Florida to Louisiana I nearly lost my teeth at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles place when I found out how much it cost to register a vehicle here. Outrageous compared to Florida.

money when we move.

Here in WA we pay a 10% sales tax an area transportation benifit tax. A Metro impovement excise tax and a state excise tax as well as a $65 licence fee, The paper said we have one of the highest tabs in the nation.
