My sister has a couple dining room chairs that tend to come apart, specifically the dowels supporting the legs. She's done all the amateur stuff, re-gluing them and using bungee cords to let the glue set. Works for a while, but . . . :cus:

I though it might make more sense to find a professional furniture repair service that used industrial strength glue and good braces to fix the chairs. Compared to trying to find and buy replacements, the cost of a pro would be well worth it.

Anyone know of such a company in TV area and can anyone make recommendations? :shrug:

I owned / operated a furniture repair / refinishing and restoration biz for over 10 years. The trick(s) to properly repairs chairs that have this type of probs are:

- Cleaning the old glue off both pieces of the joint. New glue does NOT stick to old glue. Incidentally .... their is no magic glue. 97.986% of all "professional" repairs (or construction for that matter) is done with PVA type glues ... ie "yellow" carpenters type glue.

- Proper clamping. This can be the tricky part as chair legs are typically slanted "out" both front to back and side to side. This makes getting a clamp to exert proper pressure and stay in place problematic. Pros often use band clamps (the "band" is made of nylon or cotton strap type material), specially made "cauls" that help the clamps stay put .... or even clamps to hold the clamps in place. Actually, bungee straps are not a bad clamping method. They can be used on irregular shapes and pulled very tight. I often used surgical tubing in the same way.


all that said ... I do not know any of the furniture repair people in this area and can not give you and informed recommendation.
