It appears that some folks are afraid of a pipeline carrying oil, which this country still uses, will leak and foul the water supply and it is way too near some cemeteries...for some religious folks.
What am I not understanding? Why is everyone so upset???

I used non bold, regular color since you seemed annoyed with me using red ink.
Suggest you read the entire link...it has become political as things often do.
"The Standing Rock Sioux opposes the pipeline's construction near the Sioux reservation on the grounds that it threatens their public health and welfare, water supply and cultural resources. What began as a small protest camp in April on the Standing Rock reservation has since morphed into an encampment with over 1,000 people. Over the past few months, the Sacred Stone Camp, as it is now called, has been the site of a number of antagonistic face offs between protesters and the oil company."

Does anyone wonder how the USA ever got to have
2.5 million miles of oil pipelines in the USA.
There is no need to study anything. There is more than enough experience available to make or break any issue presented.
It is nothing more than crony, establishment, special interest, minority group politics......you know the same type that is ignoring all of America's history doing stupid minority group crap.
For those who have nothing more than a partisan ax to grind here is some education:
Pipelines Explained: How Safe are America’s 2.5 Million Miles of Pipelines? - ProPublica (https://www.propublica.org/article/pipelines-explained-how-safe-are-americas-2.5-million-miles-of-pipelines)
2.5 million miles of pipelines......we the majority do acknowledge that we in fact do know what we are doing.

There is only a small portion of the pipeline that is being questioned and that portion runs under a lake. there have been 140 different studies done to satisify the environmentalist but we all know their methods.
with all the environmental groups, unions, government regulations its a wonder anything gets built in America today. Years and years are tied up in any building of road,s bridges, over shear nonsense etc.

Not to worry, Donald Trump will reverse this decision on day one when he has a big bonfire at the White House to burn all these regulations.
His second target is the sinkhole law where developers must tell buyers if there is a big, ole sinkhole sitting right under their house. He says sinkhole laws are for sissies.
Substitute American Indians for religious folks.

That portion that would go under the lake would be 90 ft. under the bottom of the lake. It would replace the otherwise shipping of that oil in rail cars, much more risky.

1. The pipeline is going directly across Indian reservation land, which the US government declared was a separate nation for Indians to govern with their own laws, and would never be "invaded" by the white again. 2. In several states the government did not buy the land from the farmers, and I should not say government, because it is private oil companies that has the backing of the government. 3. It could be like Michigan and the lead in the water; an oil leak could go on for years, be in the soil , and get into our rivers and livestock.it goes diagonally across Iowa, where half the nations pork, corn, eggs, poultry comes from

Interesting that in your link it says...
As Bill McKibben explains for the New Yorker, the pipeline was originally supposed to cross the Missouri River near Bismarck, but it was moved over concerns that an oil spill at that location would have wrecked the state capital’s drinking water.
As a result, the pipeline was shifted to a crossing half a mile from the reservation.
It pretty much says to me...
"Put it by the Native Americans, they have no clout...and who cares what happens to them? :ohdear:

why can't they under the river with a double wall pipe as safety precaution, with electronic senors etc.
Or build a bridge with pipe on it for easy inspections.
We go to the moon and beyond we can't design a pipe?

Of course we can....2.5 million miles of existing pipeline experience.
The issue is the pipeline, and matters little where it is.

You probably recall the THALIDOMIDE BABIES. They were horribly deformed due to thalidomide a sedative.
The young female doctor who had stopped the sale of the drug in the US just recently passed away.
The US did have some deformed babies due to the drug BUT, anyone who used the drug got it ILLEGALLY from abroad.
THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE that is yet another POLITICAL SCANDAL pulled out on the AMERICAN PEOPLE.
We all saw that speech from Warren Buffet about him paying a lower tax rate than his secretary. WHAT AN EFFECTIVE JOB OF TYING FACTS INTO A KNOT. First of all Buffets secretary is on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I would expect she is paid well over a six figure income. Buffet spun it to tax rate NOT THE TOTAL HE PAYS IN TAX. ASIDE-THERE IS A LINE ON YOUR TAX FORM WHERE YOU CAN ELECT TO PAY MORE TAX IF YOU WISH TO. After giving that speech, Buffet ran a fund raiser in Chicago where he shook down his friends and business associates to give money to the Obama election campaign.
TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER-Buffets Railroads carry the crude oil. a pipeline can transport oil at a far lower cost from a railroad. DO YOU BELIEVE IT IS JUST A COINCIDENCE WHY OBAMA VETOED THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE THREE TIMES. Do you believe it is cleaner, safer to ship crude on trains?????????????????????????????
