"tip" bucket at Brownwood

Has anyone ever heard of the entertainers looking for "tips". The solo guy at Brownwood tonight (Wed) mentioned to feel free to drop tips in his bucket. I've never heard of this before

Personally, if The Villages pays for the entertainment, then I wouldn't tip (and if I was The Villages, I would be upset and may never bring them back), but if they are freelancing, I may tip. Its like someone playing in the subway, if you like it, drop a dollar.

Tipping is a thing you give; no pressure, and if pressured, myself I would say 'Are you serious, Dude?'.

It's unusual to hear of a tip jar in the squares, but why not. The performers get paid by the stores, not TV, although the Entertainment Department hires them. They usually get paid much lower here than when playing in other venues in Central Florida. It is, however, a steady gig. So, I'd say if the entertainment was good, you enjoyed yourself, you requested a song and it was played, tipping doesn't hurt. Tip if you want, don't if not. It's a no harm, no foul kind of thing.

BTW, I've always given money to a band when requesting a song.

When I go to the town squares, I always take a wad of singles and "tip" people for just being themselves. I also tip people for not doing something bad. I feel good doing it.

I think it makes no difference if they have a tip jar or not. Give if you have a reason to, don't if you feel you don't want to.

Yes tipping has gone over the top for a while now. When you go to dinner and all the waiter does is deliver the food and drinks. They feel you should give them 20% tip .
That is 20% of the bill for what? I very rarely get good service in the villages, never mind that the quality of food is at best mediocre. You have to ask for a refill of your drink etc.

Most of Bobby Blackmon's music is bluesy. Some B.B. King, Wilson Pickett, maybe a little Buddy Guy. Hey Joe gives him and the band a chance to show off their musical talent.

Why do people want to take it out on the Server when the food is bad? Low wages, few benefits and complaints----20% gratuity is the least we can do when we go out for dinner and get reasonable service.

This started with a tip bucket and snowballed.

No one is forcing anyone to tip, and if you are able to not have feelings, then don't tip. Some older people (I know I said that in TV website) grew up tipping 10%. I usually tip 30% on the food (I don't tip on the taxes). If bottles of wine are bought then it is a game day decision but I am not tipping 30 dollars on a 100 bottle of wine. I don't even know what is right in that case.

As to the basket, tip the guy then ask why in a kind way he feels the need, he may have an interesting story to tell.

No one is being forced to tip (for anything) and if you're offended by just the mere presence of a tip jar/can...then I think other serious issues are at play IMHO. :shrug:

Asking for a tip is begging. The last time a begger asked me for money I took him into a diner on Delancy St. , gave the owner 20 bucks and told him to give this guy whatever he wanted until the 20 bucks was spent. That was 40 years ago. I felt he needed the food more then the money. As a rule, I don't tip.

It just never stops. I tip a lot of people during the year but it seems like pressure during the holidays! I'm so stirred of Publix asking for donations every week for a different cause!

I like to tip someone who you can just tell is lumped up. It's not easy for a lot of people. There are a whole lot of rough stories out there. It does upset me when I see people running a scam collecting for months at the same traffic lite and resting in the parking lot in a beautiful car with shiny rims. Since I go to the Walmart on 441 occasionally in my car because I'm trying to be a team player...(golf cart path violation..ooh) these are the people that send me into orbit. People who work deserve to be tipped but things are different here, a man named Javier busted his butt loading our car with heavy stuff at Lowes because I can't lift these items and I tried to tip him and he turned it down and got serious about it. I felt very bad but I backed off. It's the Holidays, if you can do it let er rip!
