Just a quick post to let you know I had to put Katrina, my companion Sheltie of over 13 years, to sleep today. It was her time. A big thanks to Redwitch for coming with me to the Vets.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that Dicky, to lose a pet/companion is a pain that no one can describe. May memories comfort you in your time of loss of your dear Katrina.
With sympathy,

That is a day none of us look forward to.I have a 7 year old Border Collie/Collie mix who thankfully is in excellent health but I know the day will come when it will be her turn and it is something I do not want to have to think about. Sorry for your loss .

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should wake me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I'll understand,
Don't let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
What is to come will hold no fears,
You'll not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.

I know in time, you too will see,
It is kindness you do for me,
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering, I have been saved.

Do not grieve that it should be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

DickY,
Sorry to hear about Katrina. I know you were both very fortunate to have each other for all those years. Through the tears hopefully there will be laughter as you recall the many wonderful times you had with Katrina.

DickY,

We are sorry to hear your sad news. I am glad Redwitch was there for you. Jeannie posted a poem that always brings me to tears as a pet owner - but you did the right thing. I am convinced there is a doggy heaven where she can chase sheep to her hearts content.

Oh dear.....having recently faced the same decision I know how heartsick you must be. If it was her time that is a bit easier but our pets are so near and dear and it really hurts. Katrina has crossed the rainbow bridge and is in a good place. My heart goes out to you.

DickY, The next few days and weeks will be very hard for you, but you know I'm here for you as are all your friends, to help you through this. Katrina was a doll and a very loving pet and although it was extremely hard to do what you did, you know too that she's better off, she wasn't living a quality life. With my two oldest being 13 years old, I'm dreading the day when I need to make that decision also.

To Redwitch, you were a true friend to help Dick out at this time. I know he very much appreciated it and I think you are a good friend to have been there for him. Thanks from me....

Dicky - Scotti and I are so sorry to hear about your Katrina. We've done this in the past and it is truly a difficult time. To this day our family still laughs about some of Venus' (german shepard) antics. Thinking of you.

Jeanie,

That is so meaningful. It is so hard for a pet owner to take that final walk,
but its done out of love and respect
My heart goes out to all who have done it (been there)

Redwitch,

It was so kind of you to be there for Dicky at this difficult and heartbreaking time.

The words from the theme song from "Golden Girls" comes to mind............

"Thankyou for being a friend" , it certainly applies.

My sincere condolences DickY- losing a beloved pet is never easy. I'm glad Redwitch was there for you- while it doesn't make it easier, having a friend there can make it a less lonely feeling.

DickY,

I am so sorry to hear about Katrina. What a wonderful life she must have had with you. I know how you feel and how much you will miss her. My Annie (named Annie because she was an orphan when she showed up at our back door at about 5 months old) is 15 years old now.

My thoughts are with you, DickY. And maybe someday, when you are ready, you will love again.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Katrina was a true sweetie and doll baby. I'm sorry you don't have your woofer with you but you did the most loving thing you could do for her. We're all here for you if you need us.

Many hugs, my friend.
