We did and love it. Pros: we have a year around room because we installed a mini-split. We enjoy the room. Cons: none.

Is a sunroom the same as an enclosed lanai? What is a mini split?

A mini-split is an air conditioner though when it is installed on a lanai it is called a dehumidifier. Small unit goes on the wall, near the ceiling, inside and a larger unit (but smaller than the outside unit for the house) goes outside. They heat in the winter and cool in the summer.
It's a great addition to an enclosed lanai.

We took out our lanai, raised the floor and extended that area into a large sun room, we spend all our time there. It is air conditioned and just an extension of the original home.

We did the same thing and it gets MUCH more use than our lanai did!!

You might have a concern if your sunroom faces West during the summer, it may become too hot to use. I am sure others will provide additional feedback on this. Our lanai faces South, and we get just the right amount of sun year round. We have never considered enclosing the lanai, as we like the open space and air flow, but it does require more work keeping everything clean.

Also, I forgot in my previous post, do a search on enclosing lanais, as I recall there was some really good info provided. Also, there was a significant change in the building codes over a year ago, which might affect your proposed project. A call to the building department will get you the current info.
Hope this helps.
