We moved into our new home a couple months ago and there were stickers on the window stating the address.
We finally got a sign with our name and street number and hung it on our lamppost, so now we want to remove the stickers from the window. However, they are not easy to remove. How did you do it?

I would suggest leaving them on. Emergency people look for them.

Carefully, with a razor blade.

Better than any house # is a 911 light switch--you replace the light switch that controls your front lights with the 911 switch---its a 3 position switch, in emergency mode all the lights controlled by it will flash--makes it real easy to find your house

I used a razor blade, as well as a hair dryer to soften the adhesive. It made it much easier to remove the numbers.

However they are reflective and easier for the Fire Dept. or other Emergency Agencies to find your home. That's one of the reasons they're put on the windows kin the first place.

They really do help in an emergency situation. While a flashing light is good, you're not always able to get to the switch. People really do fall and can't get up. You might be lucky and have your cell phone on you, so you can call even if you can't turn on a light switch. Those unsightly numbers on your window could one day save your life. I'd leave them.

Most people leave them on. Easier to spot for emergency personnel.

I remember this same discussion from a few years ago. Fire personnel responded that that do not look for those numbers placed on each new home, but rather use GPS. We got ours off the window with an industrial grade scraper.

Thanks for all of your comments. I had not realized the numbers on the window were reflective, but when I pulled up this evening I noticed that I could easily see the numbers on the window but could not see the numbers on our new sign.
So we have decided to leave the numbers on the window, at least until we get numbers on the house that are equally reflective.

I like the numbers, when I am going to a new location in the villages. GPS will get you close, but many times, I am going down the street looking for house numbers, JMHO.

I removed mine and bought new numbers from Home Depot, Lowes or Ace hardware and put them over the garage door where they are more visible.

We took removed ours as soon as we moved in with a razor blade and Goo Gone. EMS has been here 4 times since we bought the house 8 years ago and they have had no trouble. Our address is on the lamp post. They have a spot light and they said they use GPS.

Don't the numbers on the windows block your view?
In our neighborhood everyone has their number, and often their name, on the lamp post. Some also have it over their garage door. I thought the numbers on the windows was only temporary, until someone moved in and put their personalized numbers on their lamp post.
