U.S. expels 35 Russian diplomats, closes two compounds: official

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States expelled 35 Russian diplomats and closed two Russian compounds in New York and Maryland in response to a campaign of harassment against American diplomats in Moscow, a senior U.S. official said on Thursday.

The move against the diplomats from the Russian embassy in Washington and consulate in San Francisco is part of a series of actions announced on Thursday to punish Russia for a campaign of intimidation of American diplomats in Moscow and interference in the U.S. election.

Now let's watch how many on this forum are NOT American patriots...and get pizzed at what Obama has done.

It won't be hard to make the list of those who voted for Trump, because they hated Hillary... more than they love this great nation.

Trump is getting painted into a corner on this one. The republican leadership came out today in support of Obama's actions making it difficult for Trump to rescind the order. If he doesn't rescind it, his pal Putin will be pi$$ed. If he does rescind it he is saying to the world it is okay to interfere with our elections. Rock meet hard place.

And so starts a new cold war. Obama finally grew a pair, on his way out. He won't have to deal with it. And he bit*hed about the mess Bush handed him. If Russia was giving our diplomats a hard time, then it was the only thing to do. It's been a while since we had these type of Cold War dances. Perhaps Putin will back off once The Donald takes office and he realizes he will no longer be dealing with a paper tiger. That's just speculation.

Obama does not seem to be worried about Trump having his finger poised above the button. Remember Obie, there won't be a bunker in the mountain for you to run to anymore.

Why in the world would you be naive enough to think that Trump would wish to "rescind" this? Are you really that stupid to believe all those liberal talking points made for Hillary's campaign to make people believe there is ANY relationship between Putin and Trump?

This stuff happened all the time during the Cold War. It's all about posturing.

Have you stopped beating your spouse yet? Same old baiting, huh? Sorry, but this Trump voter supports the common practice of expelling diplomats when ours are pestered in other countries. It's about time that the "leading from behind" sissy attempted to stand up to the big bad bully. Let's see what happens when Obie throws the stone at the bully and runs home to get his big brother to fight his battle for him.

Yep, I understand how the dance works.

"It's fair to say that Donald Trump is skeptical of the idea that Russia should be sanctioned for election-year hacking.

"I think we ought to get on with our lives," Trump told reporters late Wednesday at his Mar-a-Lago estate in South Florida.

Trump, who has disputed U.S. claims that Russia hacked the email accounts of Democratic Party officials in an effort to help him win the election, added that "I think that computers have complicated lives very greatly — the whole age of computer has made it where nobody knows exactly what is going on."

Trump dubious about sanctions on Russia for hacking (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/12/29/donald-trump-russia-sanctions-hacking/95951664/)

Not exactly sure where Trumps head is on Russia. It is ludicrrious to allow this kind of thing without doing anything and dont move the subject here. This is about a President and a pretty unified congress and a totally unified security group agreeing for once and only one person thinks they are innocent, and no sanctions. That is the guy coming into office.

Of course he said this flanked by Don King who spent 4 years in prison for manslaughter so he did it in a classy arena.

Gotta tell you....until he allows his tax returns and which would allow us to see IF, and HOW MUCH and TO WHOM he owes money over there, there is absolutely no way he should be trusted.

Still harping on his tax return? I had hopes for you, that you were not as naive as the rest of the libtard girls on here. You are the only liberal on here that has a half way decent reply (most of the time) when it comes to discussion of the subject of the thread. But, his tax return...really? So, Obie has a petulant tantrum because he lost the election, so he accuses Russia of hacking. Oh, is this hilarious or what? We hacked Iran's nuclear program and it was OK, but Obie lost so it's not OK for Russia to hack us, even though they have been hacking us for decades without any outburst from the petulant loser. And yes, he really did lose. He threw his whole (tiny) reputation out here, along with his ego (giant) and he got squashed when lazy and corrupt Hillary lost. Now he sees his legacy dissolving, and disappearing. Oh my, how sad for him. That's OK Obie, Trump will salvage everything for you. Not really, because Trump did not appreciate being humiliated at that dinner in front of all those VIPs and America. Perhaps Trump will not rub it in too much. After all, he seems like a pretty nice guy. He'll smooth things out with Putin. The Russians did NOT do anything to harm the elections, even if they have been hacking all along. Even if the truth about Hillary was revealed as a result of Russian hacking, America found out enough to make an INFORMED decision NOT to vote for that piece of garbage. It was a result of knowledge, not voter hacking.

"Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has called a new round of U.S. sanctions against his country "anti-Russian death throes."

U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday imposed sanctions on Russian officials and intelligence services in retaliation for Russia's interference in the U.S. presidential election by hacking American political sites and email accounts. The Kremlin said late on Thursday that it was considering retaliatory steps.

When he was president in 2008-2012 Medvedev focused on improving U.S.-Russia ties in what became known as the "reset" policy. He voiced disappointment with the new round of sanctions on Friday.
"It is sad that the Obama administration that began its life by restoring ties ends it with anti-Russian death throes. RIP," Medvedev said on Twitter."---Associated Press - Friday, December 30, 2016

"Vladimir Putin has said Russia will not expel any US diplomats in response to the US decision to kick out Russian officials over allegations of interference in the US presidential election."

I guess that Putin is showing Obama what a Russian leader looks like. He probably thinks that it is not worth escalating this issue over Obama's petulant tantrum. Sometimes Obama just does not know which issues to fight over and which ones to ignore or take subtle actions. A covert cyber attack is probably better a tactic if one wishes to retaliate for perceived slights from Russia.

Even though I do not like Putin the KGB thug, I have to admit that his ignoring Obama's little weak wristed slap is making Obie look kind of pathetic. Another reason to get a MAN in the White House.

Lucky for us the republican congress is staying behind after Obama leaves. They have promised an investigation that could take two years.

Also lucky for us that Trump has agreed to be briefed by the intel community on this matter. We knew he is smarter than the generals, now we find out he is smarter than his intelligence agencies.

Well, it doesn't take a genius to know that he is smarter than the current loser.....sorry....LOSER in the White House. I understand that Trump is going to show that there is no bad feelings by putting Chelsea in charge of the Easter Egg hunt at the White House. The only way a Clinton gets to see it again, unless they want to take a tour.

Don - you got a little off track with this post...most of the women in here are Lesbians. Who cares if and why they cheat on their weirdo partner?

Most "women" I see around here are androgynous...from behind, they appear to be men...from the front...men with big saggy boobs.

Better to be a lesbian than engage in bestiality. Nothing makes me sadder than to see a misguided white girl/woman with a black guy. What could have happened to them to push them so far...into inter-species sex. Daddy issues or what? What's next? The donkey show in Tijuana?

Sometimes, it really saddens me to be correct.

Just watching the scum trying to defend Russia, simply because Putin helped get Chump elected...roils my stomach. :yuck:

Thank goodness there are at least a few GOP politicians that have a modicum of patriotism and agree with what Obama has done.

The scum on the right who think it's no big deal with what Putin has done, have lost any right to call yourself a 'Patriotic American'...so don't even try. :ohdear:

Actually, I think that a good American leader would have prevented this from happening, if it did happen at all. I know that the CIA says that they have enough information to convince them that Russia was doing it, but this is the same CIA that said that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

But taking action today is like closing the door to the hen house after the fox has killed all the chickens and left. In fact if it had been prevented it would have avoided a break in out relationship with Russia.

Where is our cyber security when this can happen? Hopefully, it will be improved during the Trump administration.

Rudy Giulianni does cyber security for a living. I'm thinking that we should have a new cabinet position and name Rudy as the secretary.

But then again we really need to wait until we have al of the information. According to Julian Assange and Wikileaks, the information did not come from Russia.

Yes it is the same...and they're telling you the same lies like they did then. There were NO WMDs and there is NO hacking that corrupted the election.

This... like all the rest of the lies...will spawn MORE controlling laws and give them MORE power over us all. It's the game they play. When they want something, they CREATE a need...stage an event...get us clamoring for "safety"...and pass another draconian law.

His personal tax returns won`t exactly tell you who he owes money to .

Do you list your creditors on your tax returns such as say the banks that you might at that moment in time owe credit card balances to ?
Owe a car loan to a bank ? Doesn`t show on your personal tax return . Borrow money from a foreign bank ? Doesn`t show on your tax return .
Borrow money from a financial institution of any kind secured by investments ? Doesn`t necessarily show on your personal tax return .
So although a few have called me a BSer and a fraud , and a phony I would very much apprecate it if you could educate me on what insight you will gain by reviewing Mr. T`s income tax returns .

Now I hear that the Russians may have hacked our power grid and are planning to shut off all of our power in order to cripple us.

My question is, if this is true and if they did indeed hack into Hillary's e-mails, is this not the responsibility of the current administration? Where has this administration been in terms or protecting our national security? Why did it take until now for them to act on this? Why didn't they prevent it?

Or is this somehow the responsibility of the republican congress and the incoming president?

If any of this is true, then this administration has failed us miserably. This president may go down in history as the one who allowed The United States of America to be destroyed.

From what I read and maybe it is not all inclusive of available information, but someone from one of the power companies found some Russian originated Malware on their laptop and now everyone is saying that the power grid was hacked. Maybe this isn't the whole story, but I would assume that there would be more details before they decide to push the button on war.

Nobody will remember this VT power grid story in a few weeks or months. If we make it through three more weeks without an attack by a terrorist organization, Obama will be remembered for keeping this country safe for eight years.

Some of us survived the Bush administration's eight years, except for the 3000 that died on 9/11/2001, the 1800 who died in Katrina, and the hundred thousand Iraqis and 4500 servicemen who died in Iraq.

No, Obama will only be known as the first half black president, and that he was so racially divisive that did the most internal damage to America than any other leader, as well as damaging America's reputation throughout the world and assisting in the utter chaos of the Middle East. He will also be known as the loser that Obamacare was named after, even after it is dismantle for being the most costly program ever conceived by congress. Depending on how much Hillary squeals when finally indicted, he may also be known to be complicit in the lies perpetrated about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi and her violation of felony laws pertaining to national security.

And Obie's most renown theme in the history books will be that he believed in "leading from behind" which is not supposed to be construed in any way as related to his pushing for gay marriage.

Obama's passive pussies Club will not feel this way. He is their hero that gave them their own identities. Latino and Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, elderly Americans, lesbian and gay Americans, and the list goes on.

If the Russians were going to hack anything they would be wise to hack the GPS system and take us all about 20% out of our way every time we take a trip in the car using the GPS. They would benefit from the added fuel sales
