Hidden Figures (2017) - Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hidden_figures/)
Anyone seen this? Looks quite good. My U of MN Law School live-in girlfriend Jennifer V's best friend Sandy H., was a computer programmer at NASA here in Florida. Not sure if she is still there as Jennifer and I went our separate ways. Must be exciting to work for NASA.

Before computers were commonplace, humans did the computing. The inspiring story of 3 women of color who worked as human computers for NASA. The movie is set in 1961 in the early days of the space race between the USA and the Soviet Union. The acting is first class. Octavia Spencer deserves her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. I think Taraji P. Henson should had gotten a Best Actress nomination. This is a movie you can take your granddaughters or younger female relatives to without hesitation.

I just sent an e-mail to my kids recommending that they take the older granddaughters to see the movie. It was an informative and inspiring movie - well done.

The early morning seems to be a great time to go to the movies except I have a dog who needs his exercise as do I.
When we did not have a dog around 5 days in 2014 I went to a few of these early morning shows.

Maybe it will beat La La Land at the Oscars for Best Picture?

I just viewed it recently and echo all of the other posts...absolutely excellent!!
The real shame is not only the obstacles these African-American ladies (and men) faced back then, but that a story this uplifting and awe inspiring...took so long to be told in a movie. :ohdear:

At one point she goes into a library and gets a book. If you look carefully, you'll notice that it's a book on Fortran (FORmula TRANslation). I wrote my first computer program in 1969 using Fortran 4. NASA still needs Fortran programmers to update Voyager I and II.

I did notice that. And the racist attitude of the library worker.
