View Full Version : Repealing Obamacare

The senate voted 51-48 last night in favor of repealing Obamacare. The only thing required now is Trump's signature on Jan 20.
Has anyone who has a pre-existing condition with private insurance gotten their cancellation notice yet?
Now seniors can look forward to going back to the doughnut hole when buying prescription drugs. Secretary Burwell said recently on Morning Joe that seniors had saved six billion dollars on prescription drugs since Obamacare was passed. Say bye-bye to that savings.

So Jan, are you going to lose your Medicaid? I thought that stayed the same. Hope they don't take your food stamps away too. Wow, you might have to go move in with the kids.
SO glad to see congress finally getting something positive done in D.C. Can't wait for the Wall construction to start. Might even volunteer my services. Although, all they will need to do is snatch a few Illegals as they attempt to enter and put them to work on the wall to work off their punishment. Hey Jan, why don't you do something for your country and volunteer?

Well, MDLBQ, your wishes might become reality. Your pre-existing conditions (such as your enlarged prostate) will make it hard (pun intended) to keep your cheap meds.
As for a wall, Trump has said it will only be a fence in most places and that MDLBQ will be paying for it through higher prices for imported goods. Hey, you lose AGAIN. :loco:

The six billion dollars stayed in seniors pockets instead of going into the coffers of big pharma, but alas that's all history now.
Picture a big doughnut, insurance pays for meds until you reach the doughnut hole, then insurance pays nothing. It's all part of medicare part D passed by W Bush.

Trump said he did not want to repeal ObieCare without first having a replacement. At the very least, they will put an expiration date on Obiecare of like two years and have another replacement already in effect before it expires. There is no reason for anyone to be concerned. After all, the whole thing was getting ready to implode anyway.
By the way, there is an example of one they wish to push, called something like "A Better Way." I haven't read it yet, but plan to download it like I did with all the variations of Obiecare before it was passed. This one is much, much shorter.

It takes 51 votes to repeal and republicans have 52, but it takes 60 votes to replace. Not sure where they think they will get those eight votes they need.

NEWS FLASH: They are the same thing!! And now, Republicans want to take this poor fool’s health insurance away from them.

I had NO problems UNTIL Obamacare. And my daughter pays about $13K deductible per year, THANKS to Obiecare.
They can repeal without replacing and it will be a better deal than we have now. But Republicans want to do it right this time and open up the competition so that it will drive the price down. Tell me why you don't like that? And all this crying about Medicare that you keep doing, why did you not complain about them stealing close to a trillion bucks from Medicare to pay for Medicaid?
The only problem I have with the Republican idea is that it's taken so long to bring to fruition.

Sounds like you think everyone should be poor so they can have Obamacare. What about the people that had insurance but had to drop it because the premiums and deductibles were more than their cost of living (mortgage payments, etc.)? Young working families were expected to foot the bill for it; they just couldn't afford it. As for the last statement, it is the Obama/Clinton lovers that love the uneducated.
We have insurance (MedicareAdvantage plan), we are seniors, and still end up the the "donut hole" because of the outrageous cost of drugs. Prime example: One drug is over $900 with insurance and copay combined; yet, AstraZenica advertises that if you can't afford your medication, they can let you have it for as low as $18. Why the hell can't they just sell it for a reasonable price in the first place? Oh yeah, I forgot; they do that, then they can't afford all the TV, radio, newspaper, and magazine ads. Why not cut out all the advertising of the meds that require a doctor's prescription (all in the name of research you understand)? Pray tell me, what does this so-called research have to do with advertising. Use those monies to bring down the cost to the consumer and there would still be plenty for "research", as they call it. Instead they overcharge, advertise, and then get grants for the research, anyway. Nice racket.
And before you jump on the Medicare wagon, just know that we pay into it while we work and again when we retire and start to draw those "benefits". Combined, ours is over $200 a month, just like all others who have SS is.

I agree with you, but just a slight correction.
I do NOT pay anything into Medicare now that I am retired. Reason, because I did not opt to have Medicare B or others. Medicare A is nothing more than hospitalization, so it is useless to me. I have private insurance that pays for that stuff. Many folks that are paying for Medicare B were conned into it when they did not opt out and now pay for it. I opted out and my wife opted out. We have nothing deducted from our SS. But, otherwise I do agree with you.

And the ironic point that I find very amusing is that thanks to Harry Reid, the Republicans do not need the Dems to repeal ObieCare. They only need them to replace it. So, if the Dems refuse to replace it, then THEY will be the bad guys in the next election. I know one that already said he would vote to replace it.
They will repeal it, and will replace it. I don't care if they replace it as long as the get rid of it. In this case, going back is better than keeping it. It is the largest gov blunder of all time and America NEVER wanted it.

I know all you Fox watchers believe everyone's cost are going down if Obamacare is repealed. Please shutoff Hannity and O'Reilly for an evening and figure out where the money is coming out of healthcare system. There are only 3 options; reduce money going to Drs, hospitals, and pharmacies, reduce insurance costs, or severely limit care to those without insurance or cash. Replacing ACA with " something great" as Mr Trump claims is as hollow as rebuilding infrastructure and military with tax cuts for all.

Competition is the short answer. But, I am sure you have already heard that, but you don't believe it.
But, I would not care if they repealed it and then DIDN'T replace it. It was better before Obiecare. I do not feel that hard working families should pay for others to have health care insurance, just because some feel it is the right thing to do.

I do disagree with the competition argument as well as the selling insurance across state line will drastically lower cost. I guess I would like to hear your definition of what a hard working family is and assume you count yourself among them. I worked in manufacturing for 42 years and admit there are millions of people who worked a hell of a lot harder than I did and made a lot less.

I worked in manufacturing for 42 years and admit there are millions of people who worked a hell of a lot harder than I did and made a lot less.
Even though I empathize with the down and out, so to speak, I do not feel that it is my obligation to pay for those that did not plan their lives in such a way to take care of themselves. My family came/comes first and if I could hardly afford to pay my bills without working three jobs then, why should someone else that is doing far less get the handouts? I paid my bills, including emergency room services when I did not have insurance. I expect others to pull their own weight. And I was NOT counting on my parents when I was in my 20's to provide insurance for me and my family.
Like I said, I empathize with others, but I sacrificed for what I have and my family comes first before those that did not prepare.
Obamacare messed with my livelihood and that makes it bad. No one should be turned away and they are not. They weren't turned away from the ER before Obamacare. I know, because I was one of them that took family there in an emergency. I also used cheap clinics for those that did not have insurance. And I paid my bills. We didn't need ObieCare and now those of us that worked hard for our standard of living are having to pay for those that get the free ride.
It's not the Government footing the bill, it's us. The left made it look like everyone was paying because folks would use the ER and not pay. That's BS! They still billed you and sent the bills to collection if not paid.
Another means of getting the cost down is Tort reform. If courts didn't allow people to sue for millions, then the doctors wouldn't have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for their malpractice insurance.
Competition across state lines will bring down our cost.
These things the left didn't even consider when they invented Obiecare, because they built it to FAIL on purpose. The left wants total gov controlled, single payer system. That is a big mistake and I have seen it up close in other countries.

So what about those millions who have already lost their healthcare because of Obamacare because they can't afford it? When it is less to pay the fine and penalty than to have it, then guess what...it is nothing but the biggest scam ever foisted onto the American public. Remember, one of the major creators said that the public was "too stupid to figure out" what they were doing.
Whatever replaces it, my bet is that Congress won't "have to pass it to find out what's in it" this time.

Exactly!
Obama's experimenting with investing in solar energy and wasted money on NOT providing shovel ready infrastructure jobs, put us further in debt. Then, on top of that Obamacare. What more needs to be said about that except his stealing almost a trillion bucks from Medicare to give away as freebies to Medicaid. Take from those that earned it to give to those that did not, should be his motto.
And we do not need to go into how many more are poverty level than when he began his 8 year golfing vacation. Or how many have left the work force and are still not working. Do I need to add any more fuel to the fire, because there is plenty more that his inexperience has done to harm America.

Do you have something against working folk? You seem to think that if the Democrats block a replacement, just for spite that it is a good thing. I really don't think they will block a new program. Anyone of them knows that the Republicans are saving their butts by repealing a program that is about to implode. I already know that Sen Manchin will vote for a new bill. They are not all petulant Obama groupies. Besides, the new bill will be bipartisan in creation.

Why fix it when it is easier to replace it with something that is NOT two thousand pages long and nobody has ever read the whole thing? We can still have decent health care without having to justify preserving a NAME. If the ego is so great that there is a need by the left to preserve a name of a program that near destroyed America, what is the point? SO that the left can feel that they have redeemed their racist selves in the eyes of their peers. Kind of like Hollywood patting themselves on the back by voting to give each other trophies and awards. What does it do for the regular people?
Taking the salt and dirt out of sea water makes it drinking water. Taking the crap and wealth redistribution out of Obamacare makes it health care. Yes, the new plan will still be health care, just not all the gov imposed and subsidized crap that is hurting America. I am surprised that the left would insist on keeping the label Obamacare after seeing how it has almost destroyed our economy and the middle class.
The Republicans were locked out of the creation of Obiecare when they had some good input for it. Now that the shoe is on the other foot and the Republicans are inviting the left in to work WITH them on creating a decent replacement, the left not only refuses but is trying to disrupt the country. Why does the left insist on destroying the fabric of what holds America together? The Republicans learned, so why can't the Democrats learn? Are they so hell bent on socialism that they are ignoring how great America once was? Republicans did not refuse to work with the Democrats. The Democrats were insisting that America be Europe and Republicans resisted. The left has gone off the track in an attempt to carry too many passengers along with it.
Obamacare is doomed, regardless of whether or not it is replaced. The left doesn't even want to know about it. Congress (Democrats) stole almost a trillion bucks from Medicare/SS to pay for Medicaid. The states that opted in for the program were given start up money for Medicaid by the gov. That was temporary. Now, the money has to come from the state to subsidize the Obamacare version of Medicaid and that means that each state participating MUST increase state taxes in order to pay for Obamacare/Medicaid. Those states are going to hit the middle class really hard, because it is the middle class that pays a lot of state taxes, including property taxes and fuel taxes, etc. The left is oblivious to this and will attempt to ignorantly deny it until someone draws them a picture. Someone has to pay for ObamaCare and the cost is high. That is why it is so hard to find a replacement that will not make all the gov subsidized addicted have to go cold turkey. The middle class has been hit the hardest by Obiecare and that is why Hillary lost.
It is time for the Democrats to come back from the far, radical left of socialism and become the great American DemocratIC party it once proudly was before the radical socialists destroy what Democrats used to stand for.

Open it up to competition, like they did with Medicare Part D?
dave harris

And the ironic point that I find very amusing is that thanks to Harry Reid, the Republicans do not need the Dems to repeal ObieCare. They only need them to replace it. So, if the Dems refuse to replace it, then THEY will be the bad guys in the next election. I know one that already said he would vote to replace it.
They will repeal it, and will replace it. I don't care if they replace it as long as the get rid of it. In this case, going back is better than keeping it. It is the largest gov blunder of all time and America NEVER wanted it.
So the Democrats will vote for anything so they don't look bad, do you ever look at the history of past legislation? You are someone, just like trump, that just makes things up and think no one will notice. What a buffoon!

So your okay with not getting insurance because you have a pre-existing illness and companies, when you get sick, being able to cancel you?
dave harris

So what about those millions who have already lost their healthcare because of Obamacare because they can't afford it? When it is less to pay the fine and penalty than to have it, then guess what...it is nothing but the biggest scam ever foisted onto the American public. Remember, one of the major creators said that the public was "too stupid to figure out" what they were doing.
Whatever replaces it, my bet is that Congress won't "have to pass it to find out what's in it" this time.
Of course the repubs always have everything thought out, and I have some land in Florida for sale cheap, it's only under water when it rains.

Is your car insurance based on your driving history? Homeowners insurance based on past occurrences? Liability insurance based on your past actions?
ALL insurance is based on YOUR risk. The more they think they'll have to pay out...the higher the premiums. Why do you think you're "special" and should have US subsidize you?
Don't we do ENOUGH for the poor? We house them, we feed them, pay for their TV and cell phone...now we're supposed to keep them alive as long as possible so they can cost us more? Why? What do WE get from them besides misery?
Of course the repubs always have everything thought out, and I have some land in Florida for sale cheap, it's only under water when it rains.

Obviously -- the rule about not disparaging others has not been implemented. Grow up people -- the issue is whether or not there is a replacement to the aCA under the Republican government's repeal plan. So far, nothing -- and they are now verbally at odds with the PEOTUS. We will see what happens to the ACA, the people of the US who are benefitting from the ACA, the changes in insurance premiums (probably greater than in the past 3 years if prior history is any indication) and the blowback when prescription prices, Medicare and Medicaid all begin to feel the ramifications of the 6 actions by the Congress this weekend.

First step is to repeal. It won't hurt Medicare or Medicaid. We just do a reset, that takes place over a period of a year or two, but have a definite expiration date. That will force them to work on a replacement and the Dems will work with them or be labeled as obstructionist and uncaring hacks. They know this and they also know that they would not get re-elected if they do not take the invitation to work together. Same tactic they used on the GOP for 8 years. But, this time one party does not get locked out when it's put together.

The Repub's have painted themselves in a corner...and are now flailing at what to do. :1rotfl:
They have almost exclusively and myopically (to the detriment of the nation and with a +-25% approval rating)...focused on repealing the ACA.
Now that they have the ability to do it, a few of the smarter GOP'ers are waking up and trying to figure out what is really involved...and ALL of the negative ramifications that will occur as a result.
Republicans HAVE NEVER, (not even when they had majorities or had Dem's that would happily have worked with them on doing something), attempted to help poor Americans (or those with preexisting conditions) get affordable healthcare...so of course they became livid when the Dem's were able to do it.
But now we're supposed to believe, that they really are concerned with the 20 million that now have healthcare... that didn't have it previously?
So why is the most important thing now, over any other national issue...to remove ACA as soon as possible?
Because that's the price they have to pay...for being against the best interests of American citizens.
And we're also supposed to believe that..."we'll figure out the details of a replacement later?"
I mean really, who is ignorant enough to believe the GOP on that? :ohdear:
The problem of course, is that if they don't jump on ACA...they will be attacked by those Un-Americans with the attitude of... "I've got mine, screw you."
Combined of course, with the ignorance of those Trump supporters...who don't realize that ACA IS 'Obamacare.' :ohdear:
Trump Supporters Now Realize Repealing ACA Will Take Away Their Healthcare – The Business Standard News (http://bizstandardnews.com/2017/01/14/trumpaca/)
“I thought that Obamacare was different from the Affordable Care Act,” said Waylon Harrison, a Trump supporters from Mobile, Ala. in an email. “Now I’m going to lose my health insurance. Trump was supposed to deport the Mexicans, bring the jobs back and lock up the Black Lives Matter terrorists. I didn’t think he was going to screw over, us blue-collar, white folks.”
Many Trump supporters are having buyer’s remorse now they realize Republicans are going ahead with plans to repeal the ACA.
The Washington Post recently published an article about Kentucky coal miners who are regretting voting for Trump. The ACA includes coverage for black lung disease.

Republicans broke it, they own it. As Senator Schumer says "when pigs fly".
Democrats actually picked up senate and house seats in 2016.

Affordable Care Act.....only for those that get it for free, and screw the millions that don't!
Remember, Democrats are minorities in the House and Senate, Lost the Presidency and also lost touch with the American people!

Unless the Repub's come up with something that so far, they have shown absolutely no desire/ability to do, that is much better than the ACA...there will be a HUGE price to pay at the polls in the near future.
I can see easily see them breaking healthcare and owning it, resulting in a Super Majority of Dem's in 4 years and by then...the public will be screaming for single-payer.
Just remember...you read it here first.

Keep dreaming, but the Dems blew it by creating a
monster that was doomed from the beginning.
And they did it all by themselves!

Just repealing it will be fine with me. Do a reset and give us the freedom make our own decisions without the gov mandating that we purchase their product, which is B.S.

More people are refusing medical care due to the expensive and outrageously high deductibles. Obamacare is causing a lot of people to die because they cannot afford the first several thousand bucks required before the insurance takes over their costs.

That makes no sense. If people are purchasing the plans but not using them then the insurance company profits sky rocket. I'll offer you a more reasonable explanation. Healthy people are not buying the plans and electing to pay the tax penalty which is significantly less than the price of the policy. Now if you want to fix this make the penalty equal to the price of the policy or refuse health care to anyone that does not have it.

A couple of points. Healthcare is already broken as it is on a non-sustainable trajectory. The dems did not have the stomach to take the steps to control costs in obamacare. The public, in general, has no idea what a single payer system is so there can be "no screaming for a single-payer system". Regardless, the dems did not have the stomach or the votes for a single payer system when obamacare was passed. They also would never cave into the lobbying against a single-payer system - you can forget about that.

Just repeal it and brainstorm it later. We need a reset from the last 8 years, period.

THE FACTS-
We do not deny medical care to ANYONE.
The people who need insurance are those who have property-wealth-to loose.
If, you are in the hospital and get an aspirin the bill for that pill will be about $20. You scream. The hospital is a business they need to make enough to pay staff and to pay rent and for equipment. That $20 that you were billed for an aspirin worth pennies, pays for all the people that do not pay,
I spent 5 days, two years ago, in THE VILLAGES HOSPITAL the bill was 50,000. I had AETNA insurance and they paid 20,000 covering the bill in full. We were thinking about SELF INSURING until we were old enough for medicare.
HAD WE CHOSEN TO DO THAT THE HOSPITAL WOULD HAVE WANTED 50,000 FROM US. THAT IS WHY YOU MUST PAY FOR INSURANCE-IT IS ESSENTIALLY A BUYING GROUP.
THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS BROKEN. If, you ask about cost
THE PRICE-you get a dirty look. If, you ask about RESULTS all that information is HIDDEN. There is nothing else that we buy where people do not ask the price and you cannot research results. Do you need any further explanation for what is wrong with our medical system and why we spend TWICE as much on medical care as other industrialized countries AND OUR LIFE EXPECTANCY-results-ARE ABOUT THE SAME.

That is NOT a FACT...it is an OUTRIGHT LIE.
By law, EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE (to stabilize the patient) has to be provided to ANYONE....NOT 'MEDICAL CARE' in general.
Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) - Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (https://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Legislation/EMTALA/)
Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA)
In 1986, Congress enacted the Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) to ensure public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay.
Section 1867 of the Social Security Act imposes specific obligations on Medicare-participating hospitals that offer emergency services to provide a medical screening examination (MSE) when a request is made for examination or treatment for an emergency medical condition (EMC), including active labor, regardless of an individual's ability to pay.
Hospitals are then required to provide stabilizing treatment for patients with EMCs.
If a hospital is unable to stabilize a patient within its capability, or if the patient requests, an appropriate transfer should be implemented.

That wasn't what he said, though. He said everyone should have free healthcare. Sorry, but when he says everyone that means even those "rich bastards". I didn't hear a qualifier during the time I was listening. (Couldn't watch much because we had to engage in our major activity here.....doctor appointment.)

Bernie is a Socialist. What would you expect him to say? Of course, he wants to have the gov control everything, because he IS the government and that would make him important, relevant.

He also wanted everyone to go to school for free, forever (we don't want to hold anyone back from pursuing multiple masters degrees now!).
If everyone is going to school for free, and everyone has healthcare for free...then the rich bastards will have to pay their FAIR share (everything they can take from those hard working jerks!)...If not, I suppose our country is going to be bankrupt sooner than later, and free school and free healthcare is going to end...HUH?
I wish Crooked Hillary and the DNC did not screw Crazy Bernie over, I am retiring soon and was hoping to pursue a masters degree in basket weaving for free. I might not have gotten it on the first try, but it is free - so who cares...

I'm sure I did miss something. I said "during the time I was listening". I had to leave and did not listen to everything. Not trying to mislead anyone on anything. Just simply made a statement and asked a question.
