View Full Version : Hooray, Our House is Sold!

We finally got word today that our house deal is going through. It actually sold pretty quickly. At first the buyers didn't have a house to sell, but it turned out the deal on their house fell through over the Memorial Day weekend. Then they wanted to add that house sale as a contengency. Well, it all worked out because they were able to sell it, financing is approved, and everyone is happy.
We are going to rent a patio villa in Hemmingway from Sept. til Dec. while we look for a house. We want to look at preowned, new-already built, and maybe end up having one built so we can get just what we want. I'm so excited!!
Now, a question-is there a storage area nearby that we can use to store what we will be bringing? Hopefully it won't be too much stuff because the buyers of our house may want to buy a lot of the furnishings. PODS doesn't move things from NY to FL unless you rent the largest container, according to their web site. GO-mini doesn't move out of state, so we maybe renting a truck or trailer to move our stuff, therefore will need a storage facility when we get there.

Wow! Kitty, that is wonderful! As far as storage goes, Ft. Knox is one that I've noticed because of the name. Their web site (http://www.selfstorageservicesinc.com/locations/view/1/Florida/TheVillages) has a number you could call. I'm not recommending them, I just remember the name (brain too cluttered up with junk like that!).

Good for you Kitty and company!
How about using the garage of your rental unit as storage, if you don't have too much? We pulled trailers down three times, but we had the luxury of not having to empty a house.
Keeping my fingers crossed that will fall into place for you too.
Welcome to Paradise. You earned it!!

Thanks everybody for the Congrats and warm welcome. The people buying our house want to buy the furniture also. We're not sure exactly what/how much-still to be worked out, but we're hoping not to have to move too much. When I find out how much "stuff" we have, I'll have a better idea how we will be moving it. I'm checking out the storage places suggested too.
We are renting a patio villa in Hemmingway for 4 months starting in Sept. I read Linda's post in another thread about renting for a few months to see what you really want. She mentioned that things she thought were important turned out not to be. I can see that happening. Hope to meet some of you this fall!

Congrats on selling! Just remember to pack only what you really want! I am going through boxes saying " why in the world did I think I wanted that!" Into the trash!

Hi Kitty,
I think the renting is a great idea - and to rent a patio villa is brilliant! We come from larger homes in our earlier lives and until you live in a smaller space you aren't really sure of what will work.
We lived in a small CYV on our lifestyles, lived in a small condo in MB before we moved here and also stayed with friends in a Lantana - huge difference. It helped us decide more easily.
One factor for us is that our kids are 5-6 hours away - so we decided to go bigger. I loved the villas - the hubs did not. But I prefer we found that out in the looking phase and not after we bought.

Wow, Joan! So many of us from Central NY! Wonder why? :icon_wink:
And Kitty, given that Otisco and Tully are probably less than 5 miles apart, it will be interesting to see where I meet you first, here or in TV.

Congrats - we just finished moving in and empting boxes. I insisted on bringing some things and now all I'm doing is getting rid of it. There is so much you don't need here. Truly declutter. Clothes are a big item to go through and donate. Good luck with your move and see you in TV.

I have been decluttering since last fall just thinking about possibly moving to TV. We helped my daughter move a couple of years ago and noticed that after the move they had tons of stuff they ended up getting rid of. After that I would look around each room in my house and say to myself "If I were to move, would I take that?" Then when the answer was "No", it went to the consignment shop or the Salvation Army. I got rid of some nice stuff, but don't want to make the mistake and expense of moving it and THEN getting rid of it. I'm glad for all the reminders from you TV Buddies to GET RID of stuff ahead of time.

To Kitty and Another Linda,
When we all get to TV, we will have to start a new club. The "Snow No Mores" and we can celebrate blizzards and lake effect up north as we lounge on our lanais in sunny Florida.
We gave our snow blower to our son in North Syracuse and hope we do not have to ask for it back. Our realtor has just suggested a price reduction before our open house next Sunday. We will comply.
Life is great here in Chaumont, NY, from now until Labor Day when pre-winter sets in. I'm so hoping we'll be on our way to TV by then.
I have taken the advice of so many on this website and have been cleaning out with a passion. Even my husband has caught the fever. The garage has never looked so good.

I have just read through this thread and I am now going to roll up my sleeves and start de-cluttering. I think I will start in the garage. It has been raining and cold here the whole month of June. Weatherman said we had 3 sunny days!!!:rant-rave: I can't wait to sell and get away from the Northeast....

Joannie, What a great idea! I kept track last year, and we had to put on our heat in Sept. We also had it on two days ago to take off the chill in the morning. It's crazy! We're lucky if we get three months of decent weather here in central NY. Keedy, my husband's family live in Taunton, MA and we have been watching the weather there too. It has been really lousy this summer.
Jeannie, good luck with your showings- things seem to be picking I think.
Hope to meet you all in TV!!
