Congratulations.
Our beloved Cairn Terrier, Buster, just passed away 2 weeks ago. I sure miss the little guy...they are characters, huh?

Kneedy, yes they are. This is our 2nd one. Our first Corky, got cancer at 9, so we had to put him to sleep. We have had Smokey for 15 years, and he is still going strong. I know both me and the wife will be crushed when the day comes for him. But the Vet tells us, his body etc does not reflect his age.
Now, the fun part comes, working with Contractors to get the upgrades we want done before we move anything in. It sure would be nice if TV let you customize CYVs!!!

For the 1-5 July trip we will be staying at The Waterfront, as we are going to do upgrades before we put anything in it. Hoping by October to be able to stay in it.

I know what you mean about the roller coaster. We will be joining you in Sept. and renting for 4 months while we look. Just curious-did you buy pre-owned or new? What kind of upgrades are you doing? Will you be making trips from AL to check on what is being done until you move in?

Kitty, we bought a new concrete CYV, 2/2.
The upgrades we are doing are we are tiling the entire place. From doing research both on this board and other places, we have found carpet does not hold up, due to the sandy-loam soil. So all carpet and lan. is gone. We are replacing all the countertops and sinks in kitchen and bath with garnite and undersinks. We are also putting in pull-down attic stairs in the garage, sealing the garage floor, and changing out the front door and adding storm door. We are doing all these upgrades because this will be our final house, and we want nice. We have always lived below our means very modestly. Well in retirement we are spending to have what we want!
Yes, we will be making several trips down. Were we are at is an 8 hr drive so we can come on weekends, etc. I LOVE to drive so no problem, plus being military, I am sue to long days and early mornings! It is not beyond us, as we have done it, leave home at 3 AM and get to TV by 1130 AM and still have about the whole day!

Good for you, Army Guy. I know what it is like to live below or at your means..We don't believe in borrowing to live in the present and it has paid off handsomely for us. If the younger generation lived within their means...there would not have been a bubble burst in the housing industry.
Have fun.....

Armyguy, That all sounds really nice-I'm sure you are excited!
We like tile also ,so we will be looking for that. I've never had granite counter tops but know they are beautiful. It pays off to live within or below your means. We have done that also, so may be able to splurge a little. Right now we think we want a larger than the 8' wide lanai.
We're hoping this is our last move too. I don't think our nerves can take selling another house.

Kneedy, I so am with you. I think it has to do with our generation We have always believed in living debt free, even before Dave Ramsey made it cool. Of course we were always looked down on, with the smaller house, normal older vehicles, etc. But as you said it has definitely paid off, that now we can ENJOY our older years with no worries!
Kitty, I understand completely, this is final for us too.

So happy some others feel the way we do.
I agree, our generation had their head on straight (most of the time) Now we can enjoy
ourselves. This is also our final move

Did you guys sleep thru the 60's & 70's?
I did not sleep through the '60's & '70's. Not much sleep at all. If I were stuck in time, 60's & 60's. "Those were the days my friend............."
