View Full Version : The Lighthouse
For those who order salads here...beware! Went to lunch with friend the other day (quiet at the restaurant) and ordered the shrimp salad. I struggled thru placing the many pieces of rotted lettuce in my napkin and was about to gag when I just stopped eating. When the waitress came by, I mentioned to her politely that they need to look at the lettuce because (I showed her my napkin) much is rotted.
She thanked me and returned with the bill telling me that her manager was going through the lettuce to take out the rotted parts for the kitchen.
When I have a box of salad greens that show several rotted leaves...it means you can expect more...so I throw it out and the date is expired.
Thinking about this....all those who ordered salad after me probably got the lettuce from the same batch. I am disappointed that paying nearly $9. for this, they could have had a fresh and current batch of greens.
Makes you wonder about how they "re-cycle" other food products.

I have never been overly impressed with the Lighthouse. Great atmosphere on the water but the food is just ok. IMHO
However, Friday night fish fry has always been good.

I think you should have discussed this with the manager.
Sorry to hear of you problem, Our visits there have been very positive. I suggest a talk with their management would have been in order.:sigh:

CJ, sorry to hear of your disappointment. I eat at Lighthouse almost weekly (if not more) and always have a salad or the mahi mahi. I must admit, I've never had a bad meal there. It seems to be one of the few restaurants that is well run and consistent in its quality.
Hope you'll try it again, give them a second chance.

I have had the same fortunate experiences as Kathie. I have to say that it is my favorite place in TV to have lunch and our daughter loves the catfish. Sometimes salad greens do go bad. The heat in Florida these days could guarantee that kind of wilt with just 15 minutes waiting outside. (When it arrived or on its journey)

Wouldn't it have been better if the waitress had taken the salad off of her bill, offered her something else and told her that we have removed all the lettuce and are now serving fresh. For nine dollars they are getting alot of bad word of mouth. I know we don't live in a perfect world, things go wrong but you have to back up your products and your service. In this day and age, you had better be doing back flips if that what it takes to make a living.

I have been to the Lighthouse numerous times, I've always had a good meal, and the service has also been great..
Some times they do have a bad day, I always try to give them another chance as things beyond their control do happen...Just my 2 cents,...

I have to join the chorus and say that the Lighthouse is one of my favorites in TV and IMHO their Chicken Ceasar Salad has been constantly good and is one of the best around!
I also love their Crabcakes and Caribbean Chicken sandwich. :icon_hungry:

Doubt if the waitress had that authority. I still feel she should have talked to the manager.

Also one of my favourite restaurants for food and great atmosphere. I must have a hundred pictures I took of sunsets while dining there. Sorry you had a bad experience.:beer3::beer3:
Just checked in and am surprised by the responses. Please understand that the lettuce was not wilted...there was rotted lettuce stuck to much of the other good lettuce. As for talking to the manager...the manager sent her apologies and told the waitress to tell me...she would go through the bin of lettuce to pick out the rotted lettuce. Guys...I have a queezy stomach and truly feel that this manager should have been at my table instead of the outcome I experienced.
I do like the atmosphere of this place but will order differently in the future.

I have been to Lighthouse many times and the food has always been good. It is one of the better restaurants around. You should have asked the waitress to get the manager if you were that dissatified and the salad was rotten.

Hernando is absolutely correct. The manager/owner is the place to go if you have a complaint. To try to give a really good restaurant like The Lighthouse a black eye on the inter-net without giving them a real chance to satisfy you, is very unfair. Had lunch there today and the lettuce was so fresh I had to ask it to apologize.

Ummm, didn't the manager have the ability to rectify the situation? CJ said that the manager was informed of the spoiled lettuce and his/her only response was to just pick out the spoiled pieces. While the response to this issue on TOTV indicates that the occurences of bad food is very rare at the Lighthouse (that's the good news), I think the response of the manager for this particular incident was inadequate.

One time the manager spent a good deal of time with us and she told us that The Lighthouse and Cane Gardens is run by the developers. They are all owned by TV but these two restaurants are run by the owners. She was an intelligent and on the ball woman. She may have been off duty on that day but I feel that if you go back and talk to her that she would be horrified at having that kind of item served to you and would do something to make it right.
Just my humble opinion and I have only eaten there, maybe a dozen times.

Actually, CJ, if you had talked to the Manager, your post would be more credible. I don't know from this what you consider "rotten lettuce" nor can I make the stretch that because you think "some lettuce pieces were rotten" that the entire food chain in the Restaurant is suspect. You could be writing a piece that is a vendetta against someone OR you sincerely had pieces of lettuce that were "rotten". Next time, talk to the Manager directly.
I have no particular interest in the Lighthouse except the times I have eaten there the food was very good including the salads. I just have this sense of equity that says talk to the Manager if you have a problem".
And, PS, to the Administrators, why isn't this under Restaurants???

We ate at the Lighthouse on Mother's Day and it was excellent.
Like most of us, I have yet to have a bad meal at the lighthouse. I also agree the manager should have rectified the situation with a different fresh salad. We all have bad days, but the customer needs to be satisfied.
