We just signed up for our first Elderhostel trip. It will start Aug 30 in Springfield Il--The Life and Legacy of Abraham Lincoln--5 days.

Has anyone taken these Elderhostel trips? How did you like it?

We have been on twenty-plus Elderhostels, and plan on many more. You pay up front, show up when and where they tell you and turn yourself over to them. Each is different, but all meals and transportation and admittance fees are included. Some have guest lectures...all are interesting.

We have returned from our Elderhostel trip to study Lincoln in Springfield, IL. The trip was wonderful and far beyond our expectations. Now have signed up for a closer one -- St Augustine in Dec. Are also thinking about 2 in March back to back. One in Savannah and the other Charleston.

A thought on the timing of your Savannah & Charleston trips, if I may.

I took a trip (not Elderhostel) beginning at Jekyll Island, staying in Savannah and ending in Charleston, a couple/three years ago. We began on March 23 when the azaleas and virtually every other blooming bush were ablaze. Four/five days later in Charleston they were just short of in full bloom.

So - begin during the last week of March!

Swrinfla, Good idea, but the Savannah one starts March 7, and the Charleston one starts March 14. We won't have any choice, if we want to go. Hope we have some flowers in bloom.
