Are there any courses or situations where you must use a cart instead of walking the course w/push cart? Not really interested in renting a cart (unless someone can suggest a good rental company)..would rather push my bag.
Thoughts?

The Villages Golf Management office should be able to help you with this. 352-753-3396

There are two types of courses, the nine hold executive courses have many walkers. Some using a day bag or a push cart, probably 20% of the golfers. The Championship courses are really not designed for walkers, there are some locations where the distance from the green to the next tee can be 300 yards or more. In six years of playing regular here and I only play championship courses, I've never seen a walker.

You could probably handle it if you're in good shape and use to walking. Arnold Palmer wouldn't be good with the hills and some of the distances between green and tees. A newer course like Belle Glade has two fairly flat nines and one that is a little hilly. Evans Prairie is also fairly flat. I would play a few rounds with a cart and check it out, you can rent a cart at the course, I believe it just went up to $15.

I've seen a few people walk the championships, but like JW I'd not suggest it. His "300yds" between some greens to the next tee is true, but there are some that are almost a 1/4mile and keeping up with a group or your time to play might be difficult without jogging.

As to the executives....I walk them all in the fall/winter/early spring. There are some holes that have quite a distance from green to the next tee. Perhaps 5-600 yds, but mostly it's quite easy.

Oh wow. I walk the champs on occasion. Some are easier than others. But it is not that rare to see walkers on championship courses.

By the way, I walk the exec course all the time. Some exec courses also have long walks in certain places. It's not limited to just champ courses...heheh.

I am interested in renting a gas golf cart for a few months. How much should I expect to pay? Who are the best companies to rent from?

Agreed. I walk execs and have walked many 18 hole courses. But the green to tee distances on some of the courses are a problem. Maintaining pace of play would be difficult at best.
