Hi,
I am having problems cleaning my area rug. there are some grease stains that I can't seem to get off it. the rug is also beginning to show signs of aging... small tears are visible on it. i believe i am not being able to take good care of it. can anyone suggest how i can get that stain off the rug. i could also use some maintenance tips.

Hi,
Most area rugs will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. However, there are four factors that reduce a rugs longevity: grit, moisture, moths and general wear. All that is needed is regular but simple care on your area rug to keep it in good health and counter the abuse it suffers , thus helping it retain its beauty.

That care means vacuum regularly, possible steam clean every now and again as required. As to the stains, two recommendations. ALWAYS try in an area not visible first. Lighter fluid for grease and a mixture of 50% Dawn dish washing liquid (has to be Dawn) and 50% hydrogen peroxide for all other stains. Use quickly after mixing as it deteriorates within an hour.
