Its only right if it is said by the left. example
"I cannot ever stand up and stand against a parent have options, because I benefited from my parents having options. and when people tell me their against school choice, whether its the Opportunity Scholarship Act or charter schools, I look at them and say: " As soon as you're are telling me you're willing to send your kid to a failing school in my city( Newark NJ) , or in Camden, or Trenton then I'll be with you"...
I'm going to be out there fighting for my president, but he does not send his kids to Washington DC public schools. I got a governor in the statehouse, he does not send his kids to Trenton public schools. I could go all the way down to city council people in Newark, that do not send their kids-so what have we created? A system that if you're connected, elected, have wealth and privilege, you get the freedom in this country. and now you want to deny to my community? No, I am going to fight for the freedom and liberty and the choice and options of my people, in the same way you will defend that right for yourself."
Sen Cory Booker who voted Tuesday against Betsy De Vos as education secretary, speaking in 2012 at a conference of the American Federation of Children, the advocacy group chaired at the time by Betsy De Vos.
WSJ 2/8/17
Note along with Elizabeth Warren, Corey Booker has designs on the presidential nomination in 2020.

Good for Elizabeth Warren and Corey Booker. Our school system is a complicated matter and we will have to see what happens. I just hope this new Secretary has some wisdom on how to approach things unlike the dearth of it in Donald John Trump's policies in many areas.

So, one person says something and you put everyone in that category. Since your a trump backer, I take it you agree with everything he says.

I remember one politician saying when desegregation came about that he sent his kids to private schools because "they shouldn't have to deal with the consequences of his philosophies".
For safety and minimal distraction within the classrooms because of all the Secret Service presence, I can understand why Presidents and Vice-Presidents do not send their kids to public school. I don't agree with the others doing it, though, just because they are on the taxpayer payroll.
I don't know of anyone that agrees 100% with any President or ever has or ever will.

Elizabeth Warren also said that kids should not be tied to a school because of where they live.
but more importantly you have to be dead not to see what our educational system has and has not done and none of it advanced our educational standards.

My understanding, while school choice gets your headlines, that one issue was not the overriding issue on confirmation.
Her hearing showed her to be devoid of any knowledge at all of existing school policy. She was asked about a number of issues heretofore debated over a long period of time and she not only was unclear in her answers...she did not even know the debate had taken place over years.
This was not simply on vouchers

Not knowing how or why the existing broken, decaying system does and does not work is not neccessarily a negative.
The proof is there....the current system has not done the job.
Just look at acheivement and rankings of US education VS what it was when we were at the top.

Ok..
Which means what ?
Teachers all suck ?
Breakdown if the family ?
Poor curriculum, which is LOCAL ?
Which.....frankly as a mechanic with a car..if you don't know how it works, how can you fix it ?
I am not being a wise guy. I have been intimately involved with education much of my life (not as a teacher) so I recognize the problems. I have no dog in the race, but she sure looked to me as a Billionaire who really knew very little about public education.
Education is mostly a local issue, and when "we were at the top" the Federal Govt was less involved, not more.

Dear Poster:
We have had education secretaries with and without post graduate education. we have had president after president introduce a new improved system and we are so lagging behind in the world. Why? In part because--
our schools have become progressive bastion serving as indoctrination centers. They teach state worship, egalitarianism, pseudo-history, incomprehensible and non-intuitive math concepts, lack teaching civics but focus on inclusion diversity as evidenced by the comments written on social media platforms and in media comment sections, including this one — no English grammar or spelling, no learning cursory writing
no thinking only emoting
It is any wonder why college/university students after all this indoctrination end up seeking safe spaces. and worse yet most need remedial high school courses before they begin college work.
In part teachers unions. good teachers leave and rehires are poor teachers who can't be fired. and if you asked those poor teachers why public schools are failing the response would be "we ain't got no problems"
conservative thought is non-existent at college level and those few conservative be they professors or students are intimated into silence.
We need a major shift in our educational system and De Vos has the intestinal fortitude to do so and for this guts supersedes education in this case. by the way I'll bet you also have come across people with a lot of education none of which seems to be apparent

And you know this because.....................? The Donald told you so? What qualifications does this woman have that my neighbor, who was a school district superintendent doesn't have? I mean other than rich parents.

In the first three weeks, if it's said by Trump, it often gets trumped. Here are some suggestions.
(1) Stop making it up on the fly, and just use facts.
(2) Stop attacking and insulting everyone who has a different opinion.
(3) Stop using your official position to make money for you and your family.
(4) Stop being narcissistic and an ego maniac and govern smartly.
(5) Stop blaming others (media, unions, Democrats who disagree, Republicans who disagree, judges, election officials, etc) for what happens. Take responsibility for governing.
(6) Stop acting like an autocrat and seriously try to bring people together for the good of the country.
(7) Stop trying to fulfill ill advised promises that you made on the campaign trail when you find out that they will cause more problems than they solve.
(8) Stop frightening people unnecessarily when there is no reason to do that.
(9) Stop speaking extemporaneously and stick to prepared remarks that relate to the subject that you are addressing.
(10) Stop the erroneous labeling of nearly everything as terrible, awful, dangerous, stupid, etc. We need positive leadership.

your reply speaks to my comments. Progressives operate best in collectives as they are adverse to individual thought. they all reply with the same socialist/alinksy speak.
apparently you ignore statistics, reactive behavior from not only college students but government employees such as State Department employees who fell apart when clinton was not elected and the State Department set up counseling to help their employees through their ordeal of this lost election, employees I might add whose job it is is to deal with stressful situations. all of this and more has been lost on you. Progressives apparently believe that if they believe strongly enough reality will go away. Its a dangerous and foolish game progressives are playing simply because they cannot contain their emotions.

Because...progressives/liberals/democrats...are mostly women and minorities...both incapable of logic and foresight.
You keep complaining about them...ALWAYS skirting the root cause....it's THEM. They don't think like us...they don't think rationally...they think EMOTIONALLY.
Since "they" have had a say in how things run/work...the country has done NOTHING but fall in rankings. From #1 to #25...because of THEM.
They NEED to be stopped...NOT encouraged.

If the shoe fits...
My attitude towards women is JUST FINE as long as they do what women are supposed to do...have and raise their children. That is THEIR JOB.
When they start sticking their nose in places they cannot operate...I have a problem with them. I have a problem with ALL the standards being lowered for them. I have a problem with quotas for them. WHEN/IF they actually qualify...not so much.
We've gone from #1 to #25 because we've FORCED women/minorities into areas they are overwhelmed.

And so do I...and I win...because women are NOT equal to men and NEVER will be. Nature MADE us to do different things.

I'll wait.
