We met with the realtor today to begin the process of putting our home up here in IL on the market. . .yikes! This is a big step for us since we have lived here for 25 years and never sold a house before. But we are so excited that we are at this point. We both will retire from teaching in June, 2010 and our TV home in St. Charles is waiting for us! :o) I will be so nervous for our first showing. Maybe it will be when we are out of town. We are heading down to TV this Sunday to spend a couple of weeks.
I would love to hear from others who are currently trying to sell their home up north.

Good luck. My wife and I know the drill. Don't forget St. Joseph,

Thanks for the reminder about St. Joseph. So where and how is he supposed to be buried to bring the most success???

Congratulations on your new home! Showings usually arent fun hehe, I was going to say "dont be nervous", but I get nervous too hehe. But...as you are cleaning, polishing and waxing floors hehe.....just remember your new beautiful home in Paradise. :pepper2:.
I live up North and the market has been very very slow , but I wish on my lil wishing rock from Ireland every morning . And lots of praying too that I wont be here another winter! :cold:.
Best of luck to you!

Our home went on the market yesterday. Looking forward to a quick sale and then on to TV. We have more or less settled on the Designer series and the wife insists we get one with the golf cart garage for the extra storage space.

Good Luck to you captgeo! Our house will be officially an active listing on Thursday. We are hoping for a quick sell also, but we are realistic. It only takes one buyer though! Our TV home is one of the designer series and we love it when we are there. Can't wait to be full-timers!

We put our home on the market 2 weeks ago and yes, it was exciting and sad for us too. We built our home 20 years ago and so many memories! However, I try to keep my eye on the ball meaning TV. After we sell this, we will move to our condo in Florida and then sell that. Not so many memories at the condo so I don't think that will be the same thing as selling our home in PA.

We are painting and fixing and sprucing here in Cincinnati thinking to put our house on the market next Spring. We already have a Camellia in Hadley and we too have mixed feelings. It is senseless to be in one house and worry if everything is o.k. in the other. I hate to leave our daughter and grandchildren, but you know what? This is not the dress rehearsal!
Thanks for the reminder about St. Joseph. So where and how is he supposed to be buried to bring the most success???
We did not follow the directions to bury him upside down. I placed him in a baggie with a piece of last years palm leaf, buried him in the ground. Said our prayer. It works. No faith needed. Just expect it to.
We got our final offer in 45 days and there was no lack of showings. Picking the right broker helps.
Best of luck

Yoda, one more question . . where exactly do you get a St. Joseph statue?? Hope that wasn't a stupid question.
Graciegirl: I have been amused by your postings here on TOTV for awhile now and hope to meet you in person someday soon. We spent most of last year taking down wallpaper, painting neutral colors, cleaning, decluttering, purging etc. So I know how it feels. We had a 2-page "to do" list and I am so thrilled to say that almost everything has been crossed off. We are almost DONE!
We also built our house 25 years ago and this is where we spent most of our time raising our family. BUT, we are ready for the next phase. We are torn leaving our 2 daughters that live close to here and our precious grandsons, but we will travel and they will have a blast visiting us in TV. Who knows they are even talking about relocating to warmer climates too. Our son lives in Knoxville, TN so we will be about the same distance away.
Thanks so much to those who have replied. It makes us feel like we are making some new friends already. :)

Best of luck. We too are fixing up to sell but in 22 months with 36 months of things on the to do list. I ripped out a wall this week so I can't turn back from the fix up now. Oh well once more into the breach.

Ours was a part of a manger set that we had. Any religious store or on line will have them.

My problem is that we have our first grandson and he is a precious jewel to me. How do I justify to myself leaving him to come and play? Our home in Ky. is paid for, all we would have to do is come to TV and buy. Why can't I just DO It?! Help!!

Hmmm. Looks like everyone is fixin' to move to TV. We did a three night lifestyle visit in April 2007. That was enough for us to know that our goal was to make that move. I just had a total hip revision five weeks ago, and have been pleasantly surprised at how fast I am getting back to normal. So, we are going to try to do another five night lifestyle visit during the first week of August (just to make sure that we really really understand what we are preparing to do).
The past six months have been spent doing some interior painting, exterior landscaping and throwing out most of the first half of our lives so that we can get everything that remains into a home in TV. I can't even imagine how we will ever get rid of everything in the basement, including a riding mower, a push mower, a power edger, a pressure washer, a Yamaha Rhino, a Kawasaki Mule, a motor scooter, three or four ladders, power tools and lots of junk that you think you can't live without.
It is fun to read all of the posts from people who are in the same stage of trying to make the big move. Hopefully we won't be the last two to arrive in TV!!

sold our house last fall in Michigan in less than 75 days, no statue, my advice is get the house on the market sooner than later, if you are fortunate enough to sell quickly at a good price you can always get an apartment.....GN

Like several of you, we have also put our home on the market this past Wednesday. We live on a lake in New Hampshire and there are a number of homes for sale so we are keeping our fingers crossed and looking for St. Joseph to bury! We actually had our first showing today.
We have been renting Jan-Mar in the Villages for the past five years. We are in a new rental this January off of Belle Meade. If our house sells this fall, we will be buying during the winter. We plan to be in the Villages for about 7 months a year and spend the rest of the time in New Hampshire where our only grandchild (a grandson of five years of age) resides. This is a big decision for us but we are looking at it as a new adventure!
Good luck to all of you in the same situation we're in.

Well. . .our home is officially on the market. We have a remarkable realtor and we feel if anyone can sell our place it will be her. In this market it will be interesting. We took care of all the paperwork and then loaded up the car and headed to TV for a few weeks to let her do her magic! There is a big festival in our town this weekend and our street gets all of the traffic heading to the parking, so we are hoping for lots of exposure. They had a big caravan of realtors through yesterday. Hope that sparks some interest now.
It is nice to hear about others who are in the same situation as us. Good luck to everyone who is selling their home and trying to begin this new phase of life in TV!

Hi Junebug,
I just read your "Wish us Luck" and had to respond as we just put our home of 33 years on the market on Fri. When I came home from work and saw the For Sale sign on the lawn I almost had a stroke ! My husbands last day of work is this Fri., June 24 and he is retiring. So things are starting to fall into place. Depending on how it sells will determine how soon we come to the Villages. I am nervous as I have lived here all my life and my kids are here and my 2 yr old only grandson. Not sure I can leave him ... so I am kind of scared... never knew I would have all these decisions to make at this age... yikes. I am still working. So I know how you feel. I am in the same boat...we still have to buy in TV. It sounds like you already own right?

Hi May,
It is very scary, isn't it? We are pretty much in the same boat as you. We have lived in our home forever and will be moving away from family. It was a hard decision, but it came down to what is best for "us". We are very excited! Yes, we do already have a home in TV. We had it built last year when the incentives were pretty good. We closed in Jan. and come down whenever we have some free time. We are currently in TV for about 3 weeks and then we will head back for our last year of teaching.
Right now our TV neighborhood is pretty empty. . .we are looking forward to all these lots filling in with wonderful new neighbors. Good luck with the sale of your home! Have you had any showings yet? Our home is a little unusual as it is a full duplex. . .we own both sides. So it will take the right buyer to come along. . .but I am sure they are out there! Look forward to hearing how things go for you.

We have had our home on market for 1 month, have had interest but no offers. I have just retired, so I am ready to move to tv. Hope it will be before winter. What a job getting house ready, my husband built houses for a living, but just getting rid of clutter. All we can do is wait and hope to be down there soon. Hope to see some of you when we get down there.
