Well my house is sold. Will be closing on Sept 1. Now, all I need is a job. I am an RN and have applied for a position in ICU at the hospital there. Does anyone have any feedback on the hospital? My dad lives there and I have visited many times. Oh and one other question- although I will only have to work 3 days a week- will I be depressed because I will not be able to have fun everyday?

Almost the same for me. I did interview with them but we decided not to come down for a couple of more years. If you search these threads you'll see both sides of the hospital. I do know that they have won numerous awards for working people over the age of 50 with the variety of flexible schedules that they offer etc.

Please PM me with your decision and clue me in to what type of $ they may be offering. I'm a newly minted RN (second/third career) so I know the $ won't be the same but I'd like to see the future as well.

We spent three months in TV this winter (the first time staying more than two weeks) but I had to work half time via the computer & phone to my ofc in CA.

I was not too happy when my wife went off doing her fun things and I had to work. But somebody had to pay the bills.

I do volunteer work at The Villages Regional Hospital and I know many of the paid staff. As someone pointed out, TVRH has won numerous awards for its innovative handling of work for older employees so that is a plus. From my talks with most, their pay is towards the low end of the "normal" salary rnage for any job. Benefits are about average, I am told. With the current economy and the summer exodus of snowbirds, they were under a "hiring freeze" last week but those freezes tend to come and go. Also I don;t know if all job titles were covered by that freeze or only selected positions.

Don't know if you are interested or not but currently under construction in TV is an extended care hospital (I believe it will be called Promise Hospital). They haven't even started hiring yet but it should not be too long. I think it will be about an 80 bed facility. You might want to look into that also.

Make a friend. TVRH has a referral program so that any employee who refers an RN who is hired gets a nice bonus (I think in the neighborhood of $5K). Bet it wouldn't be too hard to find someone on here who would be happy to "refer" you to TVRH. Sorry, I'm not eligable for the bonus - have to be a paid employee to get it.

I too am an RN with the same question. Also wonder about other choices for RN work. I have worked both Ob/Gyn office and Cardiology office. Am also interested in the area of diabetes. Anyone out there with ideas?

Met a new villager at the pool having trouble getting RN job last Oct. Is that common?

Truth is, I really hope to not work. but will interested in the responses to being jealous of those who get to have fun all day.

I would suggest that you also look into the Central Florida Health Alliance. It is some kind of an alliance between Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Regional Hospital.

One of our neighbors is an RN and she got a job at LRMC and after a certain period of time was able to transfer to TVRH. Not sure how it all works but might be another option.

Hello everyone, I don't post much but read daily. I work at The Villages Hospital during the winter, my hubby and I are still snowbirds. We have been deciding on moving to The Villages for over 4 years, just haven't done it yet. I am a Case Manager, I find the hospital a good place to work, very busy in the winter, but wages are less than I make here in Pennsylvania. The people are good to work with, and find many of the nurses are Village residents. All places have issues but as a whole I find it a good place to work.

My wife has worked there for 2.5 years as an RN.
Overall she likes the working conditions and the health care benefits are pretty good.

I was very pleased with the quality of the care provided by the RNs at the hospital. One never really wants to have to evaluate a hospital from a "customer" perspective, but I was really pleased with how responsive and helpful the nurses were.

I live in TV and work (ugh) full time. Yes, I hate that most of my friends are retired ... but I could also be working in a place not nearly as much fun ... so I suck it up.

Thanks for all your inputs- I appreciate it. I have applied to for a position but I have not heard from the nurse recruiter yet. I also phoned and left a message but still nothing. So I am wondering if there is a hiring freeze now. Their website lists jobs for both hospitals. I did tell them that I am still in the process of getting my Florida license- a very long process at that. They want everything except my first born son- which I would be glad to give them. Well I am getting closer every day to moving to the villages!:pepper2:

Stuckny, Best of luck finding a position in The Villages Hospital. 3 days a week working sounds like a perfect balance to me. At least you wont be stuck with an identity crisis and Still plenty of time to play. Good luck!
