:oSITUATION: $340,000 house before homesead tax deduction; $14,000 bond;
Sumter County; $1,000 mth morgage; 2 people living comfortibly without pinching pennies; living full-time in home; gas hot water. Do you think retirement of $8,000 a month will cover everything possible? I'm very stressed right now. Moving to TV in approx 8 mths after retirement and sale of present home. Excited and scared.

If you have retirement income of $8000/mo you are making more than many folks here were while working. With that type of income, you need to talk to a financial advisor who can drill in a lot deeper than any of us can.

Yes, I think you will be very, very comfortable on $8,000 a month!

I'm really serious. We purchased a home rather quickly yesterday by phone and I'm a wreck. By the budget I did with everything that I could think of (health care, taxes, everything possible), I came up with needing around $6,600 month...and I didn't include entertainment and food. According, to the previous 2 posts, I overstated things. I really hope so. So,,,if my husband and I can keep things together for 8 months til we retire and sell our home, the previous two posts say I'm being crazy for worrying. right? We are just a hard-working average educated couple trying to live peaceable in retirement. I'm never going to use this sign-in name again now that everyone knows our business...but I'm really worked up. Thanks to the two people that replied.

Go to the TOTV homepage and scroll all the way to the bottom to "Nuts and Bolts of the Villages. I don't think anything's been left out of zcaveman's three- part list and there is other good info in some of the other posts.

The bottom line is: You Did It!!! Congratulations. I concur that you will be able to live comfortably here. I think you already sense that.

You expect to be something besides stressed with all of the whirlwind decision making you've been doing?

Just be glad you made the best decision of your life!

You should be fine.... of course, without knowing the line items in your budget, it's hard to tell. $8K/month far exceeds the average retirement income here in TV, so, that might elicit some unsympathetic responses.

One thing respondents should keep in mind is some folks are paying the full cost of health insurance plus substantial out of pocket for medical. It's not unheard of for a couple to have over $2,000/month in insurance and out of pocket medical expenses. That takes a big bite out of the budget.

You may find other expenses less than what you spend now....less costs for gasoline, enterainment; you may find you don't need 2 cars.

For your type of house, you can expect the non-mortgage, housing related expenses to be 1200-1500/month (taxes, insurance, utilities, fees, bond, cable, phone, etc).

Yikes - $8k a month ($7k minus the $1k mortgage) should be plenty enough not only to survive in TV but to have a GREAT time. Enjoy!

Don't be stressed !!! Life's too short and too fragile. Enjoy every day and know that you have made the right decision in moving to The Villages. There is a BIG garbage can at every entrance and you dump all your worries, stress, and perceived problems in there before you come in through the gate. By the time you leave...someone has already emptied the can and you can't even remember what it is you threw in there!! I'm serious !!! :-) Oh, by the way, $8K a month will provide you with waaaay more $$ than you'll need down here.

As my financial guy would say - Yes you can live on $8k per month, as long as you don't spend $9k! Seriously though, a good financial advsior can confirm things one way or the other for you. Seems like a more than sufficient income though.

I would say it depends on your lifestyle........think about what it costs you monthly now.

Don't worry about 8,000 a month. There are a lot of people living here making 2,000 a month and you aren't going to be able to do any more than they can do in the Villages. They can play golf right along side of you and go to the Town Squares at night, dance, party, etc. and you will be seated right along side of them.
