Probably the same reason they have their own taxpayer- paid retirement package instead of social security like the rest of us.

Congressfolk have been required to pay into the Social Security fund since 1983.

Yea, what does that mean? Are they receiving the modest stipends that the rest of us get or do they get more. In other words do they receive a bigger check in the mail then the average citizen?

all it means is that they pay into SS like all others, and get the same SS benefits as all others.
As far as the rest of the retirement program for them, that can be googled, and it is "generous." However, I can't ever remember any local groups demanding that their rep sponsor or vote for a bill to reduce congressional pensions or face defeat the next election. That's another reason to vote them all out in 2010 and start fresh.

We all know what their annual salaries and benefits for retirement and healthcare are. I'd like to know how they get soooo rich even before retirement.
Quick answer: Dirty dealings throughout their careers.
I'm with you Bucco. Through them all out in 2010. An by the way, Blue Dog Democrats is baloney. They are just not as radical as the majority of Dems in there now BUT they just get bought off and everything's fine here, move along, nothing to see !!

is required to get paid.
Quite the contrary many remain in office (we re-elect them!!) when they are proven sex offenders, liars, cheats, lechers, etc.
Being a product of corporate America...companies that only paid their executives for performance. The jobs were 60-80 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
Congress is a part time job! They vote for their own compensation. In corporate America it has to be approved by the compensation committee of the board of directors. The create and receive payola. They do not represent we the people. Not one single one of them would be able to keep their jobs in a corporate setting....including the POTUS.
SOME HOW THEY GO ON AND ON..... no improvement, same old same old, year after year, worsening ratings like Pelosi, Reid, Frank....BUT we keep re-electing them....HOW STUPID are we the people?
The above is meant to cover any and all parties and POTUS.
