Freezer in garage

Does anyone have a fridge or freezer in their garage? We just puchased a small freezer that I want to put in garage but a friend asked if the garage was too hot to house a freezer in? Now I'm wondering if we should return it. We have a solar fan in the attic but that doesn't help with the summer heat in the garage area. The manual states not to locate in temps lower than 0 or hotter than 110 degrees.

We have had a small freezer in our garage for over a year now with no problems at all.

I have a fridge with top freezer in my garage and it works fine.
I have an attic fan and garage door vents and everything in the fridge stays nice and cool,and the freezer works fine too. :beer3:

I know several people with refrigerators in their garages. They keep the beer cold.

Just be careful where you plug it in. All of my garage plugs with the exception of a special one I had put in for the cart are GFI. If they reset your freezer will have no power.

We moved in 2 years ago with our small chest freezer, put it in the garage......never been a problem.

Thanks all, any noticible increase in your electric bill - manual states it the increase in electric is $26 annually

Of course, the warmer the environment, all things being equal, the more it will cost to maintain the temp in the freezer. I am sure the $26 is an estimate for an ambient temp of 76 degrees +/-... In the summer, your garage is probably in the 90's or greater. I would imagine the $26 estimate will increase significantly.

I have both a refrigerator and a freezer in my garage - no problems noted in over five years of operation. One time the GFI reset during an electrical storm and yes, both (all the garage in fact) is on a GFI circuit(s) so you do need to watch that - not that either appliance caused a problem. I would think $26/yr is very conservative but with rate changes and all the other variables, I would also think it would be next to impossible to track the annual cost of any appliance.

There is a gadget called a Kill-a-watt that you plug into the wall and plug the device into it. It measures killowatt consumption for anything plugged into it. I recall it being mentiond on TOTV before (probably dealing with electric golf cart battery charger consumption). I did buy one from an online site.

If you are real curious about the freezer electricity consumption, you're welcome to borrow it for a week or so to measure.

Thanks Village07 - it's very sweet of you to offer. My husband is aware of the device and will look into it. It's a small freezer so I don't anticipate it being an energy drainer.

We have an upright manual defrost freezer in the garage for many years now. No problems at all.

The wife and I had an outside freezer when we lived in Oviedo and brought it with us when we moved to TV. Don't have a clue as to how much it costs to run but whatever the little extra it is, is more than offset by the savings on the foodstuffs you buy on sale and store in said freezer.

We live outside Tampa, FL right now and have a freezer in our garage for
6 years. It's just fine. It's an upright, I don't see where that would make any difference.
