One day trips- Destin, Ft. Walton Beach, Seaside

We will be coming down in October with 3 of our friends. Has anyone visited these areas and are they worth a one day visit or longer? Other than doing the "Villages" thing, we want to show them around. Thanks, JanetandCarol

I love the Destin - Ft Walton Beach area, however I think it would be such a long drive. I would only do this if you have plenty of time. Try New Smryna Beach which is not far from The Villages (maybe 1 1/2 hours). Granted it is on the Atlantic side which is not as beautiful as the Gulf side.

We live in the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area. It is beautiful here (for sure), but the drive is 7-8 hours from The Villages so definitely not a "day trip."

We just returned from our first visit to The Villages a few days ago!
