Toyota Avalon

Does anyone own a Toyota Avalon (late model) and what do you think of it? Ride? Reliability? Mileage? Comfort? Servicing? Etc. I'm thinking of buying one very soon. Thanks for all replies.

I do not own one, but my neighbor has a new one for about a year. He loves his. It is the second one he has owned. Not too much else I can tell you other than he only has good things to say about it.

I had a 2005 for 3 years and loved it. It was the limited with all the possible options. Decent mileage, great space. Lots of back seat leg room, large trunk, great ride, and very good handling. It was a company car and when the lease was over, the Avalon was not on the list of replacement options or I would have got another one. My only minor complaint with the car was a slight hesitation when you really step down on the gas. So maybe a little under powered. Not much, but a little.

My car prior to that was an Infiniti which was excellent in every area and overall the best car I ever owned. Right now have a Mercedez C class, nice car, handles well, good performance, but to small. Can barely get a set of clubs in the trunk.

If money is not an object, get an Infiniti. Best over all value is the Avalon.

I had a 2005 Avalon and it is a superb automobile. Extremely reliable, low cost of ownership and made here is the USA (Design in LA, engineering in Detroit and assembly in KY/TN) Well over 75% NAFTA content. Agree that the Infiniti is a good car - but not necessarily right for everyone. Cramped back seat when compared to the Avalon, not as comfortable on long trips (Volvo blows everyone away for this) and not made in the USA. Also no Infiniti dealers near TV for warranty work when required.

Maybe the G series but the M (35 or 45) is not cramped.

I do like Avalons though.

We have an '07 Avalon...our second..and we love it. Fairly good mileage, smooth, fast and quiet.

I have an 2007 Avalon and find it very good in all areas. I have owned it since Dec. 2007 and have 55,000 miles on it. On long trips I get between 28-31 mpg. I have checked my mileage versus onboard manually and it is always within 1 mpg.
This was my first non GM car since 1966 and I really like it.

There is one item on the Avalon that has proved troublesome. A good friend has a 2007. I believe that there is only one engine (V-6) available in this model. He was driving on the highway and a pressurized oil line burst. He stopped immediately so there was no engine damage, but he was stuck on the road, and had to be towed. Toyota took care of the repair without charge and paid for the towing also. If you buy one it might be wise to see if this repair has already been done on your vehicle by Toyota. Any dealer or the central customer service department should be able to look in the computer system and answer this question if you supply the VIN. Other than that I believe the Avalon is a superb car.

Hard to go wrong with Toyota. My wife's favorite car was a 1990 Celica. She had that for 9 years and put on 240,000 miles.

You are a part owner in GM and Chrysler, might want to give them a look, keep the profits here in the good ol US of A. I currently own 2 Chrysler products and one GM, love them both, not a single problem to report about either.....GN

My husband wants to get an Avalon for our next car. He really loves the look of them and how they are built. I'm not sure what kind of gas mileage they get but my 2001 Impala, his old company car gets 23 mpg just driving around town and my best on the expressway was 34 mpg. Too bad GM doesn't do more with that car to compete in the market. It has good leg room in the back, but it can't compete with the quality and quietness of the Avalon. At least the Avalon is made in America.

We have an XLS model and we love the comfort and roominess, and dependability. We have a little over 60k miles on this one and never had a mechanical problem. We too hope to purchase a 2010 when it comes available.

mikark, I've ridden in the new Impala's and they have no problem competing IMO, once again we can keep the profits here in the USA or send them to a foreign country.... I vote to keep it here.you are entitled to your vote...GN

Check Consumer Reports. Impala is not a "recommended" car. Much worse than average depreciation and mediocre fuel mileage among other issues. Scores 64 out of 100 points, while the top rated Avalon scores 89.

If you are looking for an American car in this class better off with the Ford Taurus, (75 points) or the Buick Lucerne, (73 points) and both of them are recommended by CR.

Bottom line, Avalon is by far the best car in that class.

Buick is launching a new LaCrosse as we speak. On paper and in pictures it sounds pretty good. Some people might avoid a brand new model in its first year though.

There are a lot of good reasons that the Avalon has been so popular for so long.

The Ford 2010 Taurus is a complete model restyle from the 2009. Understanding Ford's commitment to quality, I would not hesitate purchasing this new model.

Can't tell a lot of difference between the two. The Avalon is nice!
