Very disappointed in the attitude of pool attendants. Grandkids went with me to Manatee. pool attendant complained about spring break and how glad he would be to have these kids all go home. With that attitude he should not even be employed in my opinion. The kids were not doing anything prohibited either although i am sure they will be condemned because they are kids. Sad given the supposed family nature of thus place. Oh well not the first time

Sounds like this attendant needs to work at an adult pool, not a family pool.

Thus place is our place, made up of you and me. I would have gotten into a discussion with this guy. Why did he feel that way, was he having a bad day, etc.?
Of course it is easier to come here and complain......

Problem is this: Even if 9 out of 10 times you manage to have a productive discussion, there will be times that you get into a confrontation, in this case right in front of your grandchildren. Is it worth it? I think I might have just said "Yep, there's a lot of kids here at this FAMILY pool", walk away and then enjoy my swim

Maybe the pool attendant had just heard this report:
How much urine is in a swimming pool? Study finds disturbing answer - CBS News (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-much-urine-is-in-a-swimming-pool-canadian-study-has-the-answer/)
I wonder if Barefoot knows about this?
There may be "p" in Sumter after all.

Since it was a family pool, the OP is probably referring to the desk attendant or Rec center manager who periodically checks the pool.

I have never seen anybody check a pool, family or otherwise. None of my family have ever been asked for guest passes

Why were you so offended? If that encounter distressed you so much be glad you weren't in my family. You never would have made it ten minutes. The guy probably had one to many "Marco Polo's" and was having a bad day.

A little discussion with the guy's boss might be helpful...

I have seen them check and deny entry to the pool.

For those of us used to living in an adult community 12 months a year, the crowds that come during spring break can be daunting. My 4-year-old granddaughter has been visiting for the past few weeks and while the pool was a bit busy now and then, the past few days at the family pool have been insane!! The pool is crazy busy, kids are running, screaming, jumping everywhere, the lounge chairs and tables are rearranged and never returned to their neat positions around the pool. I can understand the frustration from the rec center attendant; however, he should have kept his opinion to himself.

I just came back from a visit with our beautiful, wonderful, angelic, challenging, grandchildren. I will warn everyone within several miles when their visit is imminent. We love them with all our heart no doubt but we love our Villages life also. Maybe the man at the pool had just been abused by a little darling like my wife's 4 year old granddaughter. It's possible that he mistook you for someone he could vent to a little after all he is human and has limits that may have been crossed. Who knows. Sorry you got upset, this sounds unusual.
Skpe and Tango are fantastic Apps on our Smart Phones. LOL.

When I read 'pool attendant', I'm thinking of a lifeguard or someone on duty that remains at the pool. I go to the Tamarind Grove neighborhood pool and yes, about 75% of the time a rec center employee comes through and asks for ID's of anyone who is not in the pool. However, I never considered this person as a pool attendant. I guess if they linger long enough, they could convey a negative attitude with their comments, but most of the time, they come and go so quickly I don't even notice they're around.

I have had two experiences with the pool attendant and lids. Once we were at the family pool and the kids were playing with a kush ball. The soft kind. He came out and said they were prohibited, Then they started to drop little torpedoes (small plastic rings) and search the bottom for them. He then said those too were not allowed. My husband, who is a very quiet sort, went up and said this was ridiculous what could they play with. He said basically noodles. When asked why they had that rule he said because the adults didn't want to be splashed. IT was a family pool. He looked at us and laughed, If it is fun they cannot do it. We all laughed. He was pleasant throughout I guess all pool attendants were not made equal. LOL
The second time a man at Miona tried to tell my son who was 35 and living with us for 8 months, that he could not swim there because he was not a resident. I explained that he was issued a residents pass by TV. He said you have to own a home. I pointed out that resident means lives there, not owns there. Ryan just kept swimming. All pool attendants are just human as we all are.

We use Manatee regularly for a host of different things. The Rec Center staff there has been consistently helpful and friendly. I am not questioning the OP's comments but assume it was indeed just the pressure of the day. If I understand how all this works, the Rec Center attendant at Manatee has the responsibility for multiple pools - not just the family pool at Manatee. They also have to take care of everything within the Rec Center. They can't both do their jobs and be at any single pool all the time.
