The March 20 Daily Sun had a front-page article about future road projects in Sumter County. Some are scheduled, others are proposed for study.

I'm surprised that nobody picked up on the significance that they will have to future development in Sumter County south of SR 44. In my opinion, there will be LOTS of development by many developers, not just The Villages.

Here are about half of the projects highlighted in the article. So get out your map and look at these:

1. New I-75 interchange at CR 514 - west of Coleman, linking US 301 with I-75. It's interesting to note the article stated that this proposed "interchange is critical to the development of the Florida Crossroads Industrial Area, a warehouse-distribution project covering 45.6 million gross square feet at the apex of I-75, the turnpike and SR 44 (southwest of) Wildwood."

2. CR 470 from Florida's Turnpike to US 301 - improvements from existing turnpike interchange westward to US 301.

3. Extension of Buena Vista Blvd. - Buena Vista at SR 44 southward to CR 468. This will essentially connect Brownwood Paddock Square with the Village of Fenney. This is very interesting because it would go through an existing residential development - Wildwood Country Resort - via Heritage Blvd. Further south, it will require an overpass at the turnpike.

Fasten your seat belts ... it's going to be a wild ride!

Nope, the world isn't coming to an end but The Villages is in the process of expanding beyond what most of us Villagers can imagine. Part of the expansion in my opinion is to solidify The Developers multi-million dollar investment in Brownwood. In addition, the expansion will continue employment for many Village employees for the foreseeable future. Overall, it's a win win for a lot of people.
