"Fox News just had the best quarter in the history of cable news."

"Fox News averaged 1.7 million total day viewers and averaged 2.8 million viewers during prime-time hours, making it first among all cable channels in both categories, the network said in a press release. Fox News has now been No. 1 for 61 quarters in a row."

Fox News Has Best Quarter in Cable News History While CNN, MSNBC Show Growth (http://www.thewrap.com/cable-ratings-fox-news/)

=========================

I am sure that FOX thanks all the liberal viewers that contributed to making FOX number one. Without them, as well as Independents and conservatives, FOX could not have broken this historic record.

Key demo (25-54) for day- 289,000. Key demo at night 588,000.

Just to compare The Walking Dead (no, not the Fox viewers but the actual show) get 12,000,000 mostly in the key demo.

It is amazing what happens to news viewers when their President is under investigation and his cover ups have begun.

since we are discussing viewers, pre cable, Watergate, by the way, got a note in the History of Television....

"Throughout his career, Nixon had a love-hate relationship with television; during his presidency, it became his undoing. It may have begun when CBS Evening News devoted an unprecedented 14 minutes to recap the breaking Watergate scandal. Certainly by 1973, as the events led up to the Senate Watergate Hearings, which the networks rotated over 300 hours of coverage, it was clearly the endgame. After the House committee hearings called for impeachment, Nixon appeared on television to resign his presidency.

CNN had its most-watched first quarter in 14 years (since 1Q 2003) among both adults 25-54 and total viewers. Among all quarters, the network posted its second highest quarterly ratings in total day (25-54 and total viewers) and 3rd highest in prime time (25-54) since 4Q 2008.

Ratings – CNN Press Room - CNN.com Blogs (http://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/category/ratings/)

NEW YORK (January 31, 2017) – For the month of January 2017, MSNBC racked up the most growth for total viewers in cable news across key dayparts. MSNBC outpaced the competition in total day M-Su 6a-6a (+53% vs. CNN’s +37% and FNC’s +45%), M-F prime 8-11pm (+62% vs. CNN’s +34% and FNC’s +27%), and dayside M-F 9am-5pm (+60% vs. CNN’s +36% and FNC’s +48%).

MSNBC was the second-most-watched cable news network in prime time for February 2017, and the No. 4 network in total prime time viewers across all of basic caable.

They found that someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer 1.04 domestic questions correctly compared to 1.22 for those who watched no news at all.

Wow.
A study that shows that everyone who took the test got ONE out of FIVE questions correct.
Everyone.

And then there's this:
"Researchers asked 1,185 random nationwide respondents what news sources they had consumed in the past week and then asked them questions about events in the U.S. and abroad."
There is not a single valid constant in that premise.

I am very interested in what the questions were...

Interesting read for sure.

However, it is FIVE years old, which is ancient history in this business.

All outlets have dramatically changed their business models in those years from hours of hard news versus commentary, versus covering live breaking news.

This kind of study would be interesting, uodated with time frames which would allow for changing news cycles.

Much too old to be useful

However, in reading it does reflect for that time, the narrow biased content on Fox, for example. I also know that perhaps, if this was updated, and this is my opinion....Fox has become much more narrow in their scope, and MSNBC has come from extreme left to left. CNN, which for years was and I think still is the place for live breaking news, again in my opinion is in the process of change.

Bias is an issue with all networks. The reference in this old study to the Sunday talk shows is relevant I think. Those shows become informative because of the guests, and if their editors do a good job in seeking and booking, the factors will change.

Like the idea, but very outdated.

Comrade, is it that you don't applaud successful business or you worry as to why the quiet and successful, hard working people of America watch this channel? Perhaps if you would watch it for a few days, you would see why it is so popular. The talking heads don't always agree with each other but the show does have excellent writers and producers who see that what is aired as news is factual and not opinionated.

Most people, as they age and gain life experience, some degree of financial security and wisdom, become more conservative in their views. Perhaps you are too young to know this yet. If a woman is not a liberal when she is young, she has no heart, and if she is not a conservative when she is old, she has no brain.

Liberals always have excuses for everything that makes them look truly stupid.

You come with such ridiculous statements like "well, it's proven that if one ONLY watches FOX then they are stupid and can't answer questions." How many of you libtards believe that someone watches ONLY FOX? DO you only watch FOX? After all, it is proven that almost half the FOX viewers are either liberals or Independents.

It does not matter what you say about MSNBC or CBS or PBR or NPR or whatever, FOX came out number one, and made broadcast history for such a long run at number one.

I knew that there would be much gnashing of teeth and renting of clothing when I posted it. You proved my theory.

The point is that it does not matter if you agree with FOX, you still watch it. Let's face it, you get a lot more coverage with FOX than you do with the rest of the liberal media. And before you suggest that it has something to do with their reporters or whatnot, most of what FOX has is from the AP or Reuters. There is no other reason for the rest of the networks to censor news, than the fact that they have an agenda. At least, if FOX has a conservative agenda, they still broadcast the news item. This is why liberals come to FOX for their news. Otherwise, they would not even hear much of it.

I know a lot of Ohio people watch Fox and they are fairly nice in their day to day actions. I have friends here and in Illinois who watch Fox and are very nice people, so you are right about that. And thanks for the kind words, but many of these same people can turn on a dime when it comes to any mention of a viewpoint that is not in lockstep with the the Fox indoctrination, especially the ones that have Fox as their only news source. The fact that they speak the same mantra suggests some form of brainwashing. But keeping away from the political side we have fun together like there is no divide.

I guess the key here is that if they are nice people to begin with that can transcend political boundaries.

This, unfortunetly is true.

Since the Trump entrance into the race, his friends OReilly (a good friend for years and years) Hannity, a long time supporter of Bannon and others have been touting him.

They do not lie on Fox, not that I am aware of, but to your point, the actual news, sans commentary, is pretty much Shep Smith in the PM.

While they do not lie, the do simply ignore things. If you watch Fox faithfully, you will NEVER get a grasp on what is really happening in the world at all. I watch lots of TV news (which is next to impossible at times) and there have been instances when I though I was living in Trumps fantasy world. Just flipping back and forth and the story, mostly from Fox omitting things is so different.

Example.....House and Senate have ongoing investigations into Russia involvement in our elections, plus, Trump campaign involvement with Russia, plus investigation into Trump claims of wiretapping. FOX actually mostly says they are investigating leaks and unmasking of folks. That is patently untrue, but is one of the ploys being used right now to deflect.

That's not fair to anyone who tunes in......they have an entirely different perception than what is real. Many other examples, but that just jumps off the page to me.

"Next week, according to sources, a grand jury in Manhattan will be hearing new testimony in a federal investigation of Fox News that had been led by former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, until he was fired by Trump earlier this month. The case continues without Bharara, and people familiar with the investigation say the government is looking into a number of potential crimes, including Fox News’s alleged surveillance of journalists, and whether network executives misled investors by hiding Ailes’s sexual-harassment settlements. (A contender to replace Bharara is Ailes’s personal attorney Marc Mukasey — a choice that could have consequences for the investigation.)"

Wait. I think I met you about a year ago at a Crispers get together. I believe that you and your partner attended together and I think I remember you telling me that you taught at a college or prep school. I remember I didn't feel comfortable with either of you because you didn't seem to enjoy being there at all which is so unusual. A moustache? Dark hair? White dress shirt?

OMG GG, you met Don Diego CNM.

The worst is FOX AND FRIENDS, what a joke that bunch is.

And FOX thanks you for your support and for making it THE NUMBER ONE cable news network. Without you liberal viewers, they could not have achieved this status. :BigApplause:

Well people have to have some dependable news source.

Every day I shake my head at the headlines from old dependable sources like AP Wire, Guardian, Reuters, and wonder what The Washington Post will say today to aggravate all of us thinking folks. The New York Times is more fair than other papers, but all of those Fake News sources that people believe from both sides ...that is just scary.

Fox News does good research and only occasionally will hold on some things that aren't complimentary to the right. They are careful in wording, UNLESS it is a OPINION anchor.

Another guy who preaches down to all of us bad people...

"For nearly two decades, Bill O’Reilly has been Fox News’s top asset, building the No. 1 program in cable news for a network that has pulled in billions of dollars in revenues for its parent company, 21st Century Fox.

Behind the scenes, the company has repeatedly stood by Mr. O’Reilly as he faced a series of allegations of sexual harassment or other inappropriate behavior.

An investigation by The New York Times has found a total of five women who have received payouts from either Mr. O’Reilly or the company in exchange for agreeing to not pursue litigation or speak about their accusations against him. The agreements totaled about $13 million."

You have to admit though, that if it weren't for the outright hypocrisy/lies/selective bias of a lot of Faux News reporting...life wouldn't be nearly as entertaining. :D

It wouldn't be as sad...it saddens me to know that people believe the tripe that comes out of ALL the mainstream media.

You don't hear much of this happening in the liberal mainstream media because they are all gay. Just saying. Not defending any of the sexual harassment issues, at all. Just making an observation.

Not so silly. Not that it matters, but it might be a contributing factor. Probably why so much news is perverted with the emotionally personal twist leaning to the left.

I don't see a large number of homosexual anchors and I don't see why a person's sexual preferences would have much to do with their political views, except for their minority status. I have never understood why so many Jews were liberals except for that.

There is no doubt that most MSM writers are young or young-er than most of us here in The Villages and most of us here in The Villagers vote Republican. Villagers are more than a group of old people. The restrictions on purchasing new homes cause people to either pay for their homes or get a conventional mortgage for one thing, making the community a lot more conservative from the get go. Liberals are often poor or not very good with money or saving. Liberals also tend to be young or young-er.

By the way, Shepard Smith at Fox news is gay as are several writers for Fox News and Fox News also employs many writers with liberal views.

Yes, he is another one of them. And when is the last time you have ever heard ANY liberal disparage him? He throws his own emotional liberalism into his reporting. I never watch his hour because I can't stand to hear his opinion when I want to hear the news. Contrary to what you liberals think, some FOX viewers are more interested in the news than the commentary. Everyone has an opinion. I prefer to make my own, rather than regurgitate some political pundit or in the case of liberal networks, wannabe pundits.

Yes Chi, why don't you tell them why you have suddenly become so bitter? You used to be civil. :)

Oh, and I did notice that you got my moniker correct. CUDOS.
