Does anyone know what the problem is with the grass in the Villages? Why is the Villages scrapping up all the grass and putting down new? Is it a fungus or cinchbug problem? Were they too late in spraying the old grass? Are they going to tell us how to protect our lawns? Russiandoll

The replacement is due to winter kill.
You can check with the county agent regarding any grass problems you may be having. Jim Davis is at the office at Morse and CR466.

The Problem that you are asking about is Cinch bugs which attack ST. Augustine Grasses. The homes south of Sumter Landing have Zoysia which is not affected by cinch bugs and many of the other problems which affect St. Augustine Grass. The best way to stop the problems with St. Augustine is keep your fingers crossed or PLANT Zoysia Grass.
Every year TV replace hundreds of sq. yards of St. Augustine sod only to do it all over again the following year. They have a great Landscape Department and they have still not solved the problem after all this time. We all would be much better off if someone would find a solution to the cinch bug problem.
