Visiting The Villages

Hi,
I will be down for a 6 night Lifestyle Preview Plan visit starting on the 24th of August. I have a question about golf clubs. With the extra cost of checking two sets of golf clubs on the plane, I was thinking of leaving them home and try renting golf clubs at TV. Has anyone had any experience renting golf clubs there and are they available at the executive courses.

We have had guest rent clubs at Palmer and Lopez. On both occasions our guest were pleased. Have fun and enjoy TV.

On our lifestyle we rented clubs. They were decent clubs and only $15. Cheaper than the cost and hassle of flying with your clubs.

you can use the rented clubs on the executive courses, but you have to first rent them at the Country Club pro shops. Have to pick them up and return them to the same shop. I think you can also reserve them if you call that day or possibly the day before. Call them and ask. Friends did this on their lifestyle preview visit in June. Might be more of a demand in the fall and winter seasons. You can also rent them at a couple of golf shops, think it costs a little more. Go to TheVillages.net and click on the golf course info and call one of the clubs.

Hope that does not describe your swing. We used rental clubs from the Lopez course on our first visit. They were Walmart specials at best. Depends on the level of your game. This summer we put almost almost two complete sets of clubs into one travel bag. Continental charged a $25 second bag charge. Enjoyed our golf much more with our own TaylorMades.

Will go up to $30 as of Aug 19 and they won't give you damage protection unless they are in a hard shell bag containing 1 set clubs, bag, and shoes only. Golfing equipment containers measuring over 62� (157 cm) L+H+W that contain other items in addition to or in place of appropriate golf equipment will be subject to an oversize fee.

United charges are the same but allow 75" for the size of the bag and Delta allows 80"
United charges $50 dollars if oversize and another $50 if its over 50lbs.
So a exlarge hardshell bag could run $260 round trip.
Delta charges $15 for overweight (again 50 lbs) during non holiday periods.

My husbands single bag hardshell that will fit his cart bag is just under 75"

We have a hard shell bag and the total weight with both sets of clubs and two pairs of shoes, balls, gloves, etc. was only 38lbs. Well below the airlines 50 lb limit. We had no problem at all at check in. They just weighed the bag, put a tag on it and away it went. I believe most all the travel bag manufacturers are aware of the airline size limits and have sized their products accordingly.

We rented clubs a few months ago from Mallory Hill and from Havana. In both cases, they were nice, fairly new full set of Tour Edge clubs and bag. We understood that all clubs have the same rental club sets. Our guests were very pleased and they were not expensive.

Forgot to mention previously that if you use one travel bag for two sets of clubs, you will need two bags for two players on both the Championship and Executive courses. The nice folks at Havana were kind enough to lend us a second bag free of charge.
