View Full Version : Another "Good Guy With A Gun"

Paper1
04-17-2017, 04:12 PM
An old man walking home from Easter dinner with his family was randomly executed by a citizen with a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Up until then he was what the NRA would call one of the "good guys" with a gun. We cannot let the ability to maintain a body temperature of around 98 degrees be the only condition for being allowed to own and carry a deadly weapon. Collectively as gun owners we need to use our own brains instead of letting Wayne Lappiere, whom I personally think is an extremely overcompensated wing nut, do our thinking for us. As pro gun legislation rules the day violent crime increases proportionally. Although guns create jobs in emergency medicine, funeral industries, prisons, etc., I think on balance they are not really a plus. IMHO

I guess if he didn't have a gun it would be impossible for him to kill that man.

I don't see a link to a news article. No mention of where this took place or what year it might have happened...is this your account of what happened?

Look me straight in the eye and tell me you own a gun.

I thought not.

I don't either, but I do support the second amendment rights and if people keep killing older adults, it may level the playing field to own one. Don't close any doors.

If you are talking about the killing captured on Facebook that man looks quite angry, disturbed, etc. Not a good man at all.

And I have owned guns of various types in the past. I may or may not be armed now.

Doing away with guns does not do away with crazy. If you are scared of guns, then don't purchase one. No one is forcing you to have a gun. Obama IS forcing you to own health insurance. Interesting correlation, huh?

You are probably incorrect with your assumptions. Believe or not you can be a firearm owner and disagree with NRA and even interpretation of 2nd amendment. The way things are progressing carrying a concealed firearm will not be much help as you will be dead before you get a chance to get it out of your holster. The criminal element has a big advantage, they can shoot without thought or hesitation where as the "good guy needs to be sure". No way you can win that contest. Even with a gun in my waistband there are many places I would not go in this state and they are on the rise. Do we need more handguns in Florida? I think not.

If you walk around in a daze, yes you could get shot before drawing your gun. People like that probably shouldn't attempt to carry one anyway. Just saying. With your attitude, how do you survive outside your home? You sound defeated before you even get out of bed in the morning. I carry concealed to protect my family. I'll also protect yours if you can't and I am at the right place when needed. Cops can't be there to protect you. They take reports AFTER the crime is committed. A good, armed citizen may be there. Out of the millions of guns owned, there is a very small percentage of them owned by the bad guy. But, I can't convince anyone that guns are just tools, like I like to think of them. Someone once asked me why I have been carrying a gun for almost 50 years without ever needing to use it. I have never needed to use my seat belt either, but I use it. I have never needed my helmet when I ride my motorcycle, but I wear it. Hopefully, I will never use my pistol or rifles for anything other than target shooting. But, I do hope that I am there for your family IF they need someone to protect them.

Seeing you prefer personnal attack instead of discussion let me say it a little slower for you, I support gun ownership I just don't support the the ease in which anyone can get a handgun. Why can we not have a logical discussion about the old west mentality that is overtaking the country. I suspect by the sounds of your post you pride yourself as being a Clint Eastwood type but might actually be closer to Barney Fife. Let me guess, you get your information from Fox News, voted for Trump, and have an 8x10" glossy of Sean Hannity mounted in a prominent place in your home. Actually this is much easier than intelligent discussion, thanks for lesson. Just saying.

Are you serious? One incident and you come to this conclusion? How about the fact that places like Chicago, New Orleans and Detroit have the most anti gun laws in this country and yet have the most shootings and gun crimes.

You have found one incident where a CC permit holder has committed a crime with his gun. How about the millions of gun crimes that have been committed with illegal guns in gun free zones?

We also know that the shooter is a Case Manager at a Children’s Behavioral Health Agency. Does that mean that we should fear all social workers?

He is also a Black man. Does that mean that every Black man is a killer?

This one incident where a CC permit holder has done something crazy. If he didn't have a gun he might have run someone down with his car. Maybe we should be giving out fewer drivers licenses.

If you want to bother to look it up, I believe that you'll find that the cities that have the most stringent anti gun legislation also have the most gun crimes. You'll also find that most shootings occur in gun free zones where the shooter knows there is little chance of someone returning fire.

Let me guess...you're afraid to go to black/brown majority places? Why don't we SOLVE that problem? Or are we going to let the slums grow and grow?

Because the inner cities are FULL of violent minorities with LOTS of weapons.

Isn't it funny how they IGNORE the violence perpetrated by the minorities.

MANY are...blacks are up to 10X MORE violent than whites. The gun violence problem...the violence problem itself...is a problem with blacks/Hispanics...NOT white people. White people live in places like the villages...minorities live in slums...not JUST here in America...but EVERYWHERE in the world.

To the illegals and those who are too stupid to drive...mostly minorities.

IF you look it up...you'll also find that minorities are up to 10X more violent than white people. Minorities NEVER make places like the villages...they make slums...always.

Exactly! All of those anti gun laws do not prevent bad people from getting guns. What they do is make it difficult for good people to get guns as a way to defend themselves. They also alert bad people with guns that there is less of a treat of someone shooting back.

If you bother to look, you might find that places that have concealed carry ad open carry have fewer shootings.

You can say it as slow as you want, or as fast as you want, it wont change the hypocrisy...you have decided it is OK for you to obtain a firearm, but complain it should be more difficult for others. There are registration forms, background checks, FLLs, and waiting periods...nothing more is needed. It is currently easier for a nutjob to rent an RV and drive it into a crowded mall, killing many, than to legally purchase a firearm.

I only have 8" x 10" glossy of my wife, my daughter, my son, and ME (there might be one of our German Shorthair Pointer too). I do pride myself on my ability with a firearm. If you want to challenge yourself, there is more to do than walk around with a gun stuffed in your belt;

If you bother to look...you'll also find that MINORITIES are up to 10X more violent than white people...and white places are MUCH safer for EVERYONE than minority majority places.

Put the BLAME where is needs to be...with THEM...the minorities.

Want to cut gun violence by 80%? Want to cut ALL violence by 80%? Ban black/Hispanics completely.

The 99% white villages is orders of magnitude safer than ANY 99% black/Hispanic place.

Why? Because we're NOT the same...we're NOT the same species. We're dogs vs wolves.

It's SO much more than just skin color...it's ALL the difference below that skin too. We ARE different species...we are NOT the same...we don't look the same...we don't think the same...we don't act the same...we are NOT the same.

No, you distorted what I said. I said that the majority of guns in America are owned by good, decent people. I did not say anything about all the guns that are owned by scumbags in the ghetto that kill people on a daily basis. There are more guns owned by good people than bad. The abundance of killings that occur in the inner cities are located in areas where there are STRICT gun laws making it difficult if not impossible for decent folks to purchase or own firearms.

Like I said before, if you don't like guns, then don't buy one. Don't ban them because you don't like them. No one is forcing anyone to purchase a firearm. Just like no one is forcing someone to read these posts and reply to them. People on here want to ban someone because they do not agree with them, instead of just not logging onto this forum.

The better question is how many HAVE I known...far too many...not ONE really impressed me...OK...ONE did, a guy from St Lucia, he had a thirst for knowledge, mellow, did his work well...but STILL not an "equal" to many of the whites. ONE is too many. I'm seeing more and more of them these days...I cringe when I see them. The idyllic days of the villages may be coming to a close. They ALWAYS bring their BS with them.

ONLY mostly white places are idyllic...disagree? Find me one that isn't.

Diversity destroys and it'll eventually destroy the villages too...because they've made it illegal to keep them out. Keep those prices HIGH!!! Price them out if you can't keep them out any other way.

STOP bringing up the 1%...I know there are a few blacks who are OK...they are the extreme of the bell curve.

I lived on Franklin Avenue or near there the Summer of 1988. Across the street from a park where there were often drug deals at night as well as gun shots every once in a while. My mail got ransacked every so often along with that of my African-American "friend" Orlando H. Orlando turned out to be a racist against whites and something of a man who assaulted both members of both sexes. I put him out on the balcony one night when he made an unwanted pass at me after he came back earlier than he said he would and needed a bed. He wanted the bed with me in it. He had pulled a similar stunt on a 1st year Law Student who dropped out of Law School because she did not want to deal with Orlando H. This was Debbie H. I am Jon H., so I had been sitting next to these two in some of the first year law school classes. Distanced myself from Orlando that Third Year of law school as much as possible but it was difficult as he ran the Computer Room where we needed to type and print out or papers and such and this man would often ask me "When am I going to meet the parents?"

One bad apple though does not spoil the bunch. Orlando H. was a racist and a sexual assaulter. I knew a man named Will G., also an African American at the U of MN Law School who helped me deal with Orlando. And then there was Sandra also an African American but she seemed to have been poisoned by whatever Orlando H., had said about me. Not many African-Americans there at the U of MN Law School when I was there from 1986-late 1991.

And we could not go to the authorities with any accusations against Orlando H., because there was no evidence just "he said, he said" in my case or "He said, she said" in Debbie H.'s case.

Sounds kind of racist to me. Telling us that you knew a "nice smart" black woman with "class" seems to indicate that you find that exceptional. Kind of like saying you have some "black friends" that are not dope heads or criminals. Condescending is just as bad as being a racist.

We all do it. Making a racist comment does not necessarily make one a racist. I have been called a racist on here and laugh. I have a multi-Ethnic family, so people that make blanket statements regarding racism or bigotry without knowing the facts, are just ignorant. I do not argue the issue with Don because he has his facts to back him up, whereas many only have emotion.

My condolences...bet you wish she made a different decision...that she didn't marry a black guy. I "know" it's not a healthy marriage...no inter-species marriage is good...we're too different.

I feel like crying for those nice white grandfathers TRYING to cope with their mulatto mixed species grandchild. Knowing that their genetic line is broken.

"Interracial marriages have a 41 percent chance of swirling out of control. Compare this to a 31 percent chance of divorce among same-race couples."

"In 2007, 4.6% of all married Blacks in the United States were wed to a White partner, and 0.4% of all Whites were married to a Black partner."

Species. I have read your theories about the origin of humanoids and homosapiens. Many scientists do believe that evolution is continuing. This is lifted from Wikipedia...Human Evolution..for the sake of brevity.

"Recent and current human evolution[edit]
Natural selection still affects modern human populations. For example, the population at risk of the severe debilitating disease kuru has significant over-representation of an immune variant of the prion protein gene G127V versus non-immune alleles. The frequency of this genetic variant is due to the survival of immune persons.[192][193] Other reported trends appear to include lengthening of the human reproductive period and reduction in cholesterol levels, blood glucose and blood pressure in some populations .[194]
It has been argued that human evolution has accelerated since the development of agriculture 10,000 years ago and civilization some 5,000 years ago, resulting, it is claimed, in substantial genetic differences between different current human populations.[195] Lactase persistence is an example of such recent evolution. Recent human evolution seems to have been largely confined to genetic resistance to infectious disease that has appeared in human populations by crossing the species barrier from domesticated animals.[196]
It is a common misconception that humans have stopped evolving and current genetic changes are purely genetic drift. Although selection pressure on some traits, such as resistance to smallpox, has decreased in modern human life, humans are still undergoing natural selection for many other traits. For instance, menopause is evolving to occur later.[194]

I think that your idea of species intermarrying being bad is quite possibly wrong. It would be good to have strong and positive factors of all humans to evolve. I would like to have qualities that I see that are stellar in all races to be present in the future of mankind.

Anyway..it is incorrect to use the word species instead of race. Humans are all homosapiens. Homosapiens is a SPECIES. Kingdom, phylum, subphylum, class, order, genus, species....We evolved from animals. Sometimes we act like it a lot.

IMHO

First of all owning a gun is FREEDOM of choice. You have the right not to own one.

Secondly, you can buy everything you need to make a gun in your local box store-Sears, Target, Home Depo.

For your CHOICE that You have made. Perhaps, you can reason with someone in your home looking to hurt your family.

New York where we are from has had the tightest gun controls for the longest time in this nation. THEY ALSO HAVE AMONG THE HIGHEST RATES OF SHOOTINGS.

Well lets see it Gracie...lets see what they're learning...what's the latest political correct propaganda coming from the schools? Enlighten me...enlighten us.

I know one thing they SHOULD be learning...EVERYONE but the Negros have Neanderthal DNA. And EVERYONE is leaps and bounds ABOVE the Negros.

STEM is not politics and propaganda. ALL the humanities, psychology, sociology, etc., are ALL politics and propaganda.

Biology is political too because they refuse to classify the various Hominoid species accurately.

PROVE me wrong Gracie...don't just SAY I am.

You show me the genetic makeup of the prototypical white and black and there will be literally thousands of differences.

When it comes to race and racial differences, science can't be trusted. They removed homosexuality as a disorder...they have no problem lying about the races.

You want to know MY proof?

Go to the white part of ANY city...go to the same cities black/Hispanic part of town...which would you choose to live in? Go to ANOTHER city...do the same thing...which would you choose? Go to ANOTHER city...do it again.

EVERY time you try that "experiment" you'll arrive at the SAME conclusion...the black part of town sucks and the white part is nice.

My question to you is WHY...WHY is the black part of town ALWAYS sh!tty? WHY is the white part of town ALWAYS nice? Explain it. Explain that this same experiment proves true EVERYWHERE. It doesn't matter the country, the part of the world...EVERYWHERE blacks live...sucks...and I'd like to know why.

Doing away with guns does not do away with crazy. If you are scared of guns, then don't purchase one. No one is forcing you to have a gun. Obama IS forcing you to own health insurance. Interesting correlation, huh?

There are of course many books on this subject.

The current situation is we do not deny healthcare to anyone.

THE REAL WORLD-a young healthy person decides for the cost of insurance there are so many other things they can spend the money on so they do not buy insurance.

Walking across the street, they are hit by a car. The driver of the car has nothing to take. so the fact is, you can't get water from a stone. No atty will be interested in the case. WE REFUSE TO DENY MEDICAL CARE TO THIS UNINSURED PERSON. Who pays for his care? Like any other THEFT, it is added to what others pay-those with insurance and those who have assets.

The irresponsible, STEAL FROM THE REST OF US.

THINK-you in fact know it, people need to be forced to be responsible. SOCIETY-refuses to deny care to those who decided not to be insured. SOCIETY refuses to simply take people who did not prchase insurance and cannot prove the ability to pay, TO THE DUMP DEAD OR ALIVE.

Is there no way that this forum can ever stay on topic?

Gun ownership is a responsibility, first and foremost. It is guaranteed by our Second Amendment to the Constitution. That is for a reason. More people are killed by automobiles than guns, so should we outlaw them?

Anyone who wants to kill someone will find a way. A kid back home was killed by another kid deliberately running over him in a parking lot one night. I remember that only too well. Google Brian Deneke and read about how he was killed over nothing short of how he looked.

Kids that are kidnapped and killed are seldom shot, but strangled. Many people die from stabbings.

Remember alone that guns, knives, bombs, ropes, cars don't kill people. People kill people.

A person goes to the ER without insurance. They get a bill. If they don't pay it, the bill goes to collection. Why do liberals consistently insist on saying WE have to pay for it? If the bill is not paid, the hospital writes it off as a business loss, just like any other business. This is NOT an argument for MANDATING the purchase of health care insurance. It was NEVER meant to be an argument for health care. Fascinating discussion....but I have a real life experience with this a few years back.

The story goes I was driving my BMW when I spotted a guy trowing rocks at a dog. Being an animal lover I stopped, got out of my car and got between him in the dog. Asking him to stop throwing the rocks. Turned back to my car but when I looked back he had a gun in his hand pointed at me!

The only thing to do was to follow him home and report this to the police. Which, as an upstanding citizen, I should do. He was arrested his gun was NOT registered, he didn't have a concealed carry permit and brandish the weapon. Poor guy couldn't make bail so he spent the weekend in jail. His lawyer found out that I was road warrior so he dragged out the trial so I had to come off the road 3-4 times to testify but in the end he had to make a deal cause I did come off the road every time.

The police office said to me I was very brave to stand up to a guy like that but to never do it again and I never have.

Are you suggesting that the firearm dealer that sold him the gun did not fill out the required paperwork? Unless that story is 20 plus years old...it don't make sense.

He was throwing rocks at a dog.....
He did have a silver and black gun hidden in a fanny pack..
He did pull silver and black gun gun from his fanny pack and point it at me.
I know nothing about guns...
What I remember is the police said it wasn't registered. He definitely didn't have a concealed carry permit. And he did brandish the weapon. So he was charged on those counts.

I can still see the gun in his hand as it made quite an impression on me!

When the police picked him up he tried to tell the police I tried to run him over with my BMW.....fortunately witness's along the route denied this claim.

I haven't attempted this feat again.

At the present time Colorado is an open carry state so that maybe true. However the time frame of the incident is some 18-20 years ago.

I was specifically addressing your statement that the gun "was not registered" and that has NOTHING to do with Colorado being, or not being, an 'open carry' state at the time of your alleged incident.

To my knowledge, Colorado has NEVER had a requirement to register any type of firearm...perhaps you know different.

CoPuff - Were you hittin the weed hard that day?

There seems to be some discrepancies in the happenings. Now we know your a Liberal, but you can't make up stories to support your unfounded views on here. People will drag you thru the coal ash to get you to admit you were not truthful!

Please clarify what the individual was charged with, and what year it was.

I also hope you never have a gun pointed at you again. If you do, one of two things has happened: You have caused a legal firearm carrying person to feel their life is in danger by your actions, or a nutjob / criminal is pointing the gun at you...

The Republican Party ran for 8 years on repeal and replace Obamacare. They should have had a plan at the ready day 1 but they didn't. Republicans talk a good game but they can't govern for s**t!

And that is why there is a Republican majority in congress, the white house, most states. Because the left governs so well and the people love their choices for the past 8 years..:a20:
