Any ideas on how to keep off birds that sit on the rod that extends from the lamp post & holds the name sign.
I have to clean the sign with soap & water every 2 days PLUS it looks bad from the street.

Find a piece of Barbed wire or the like and attach to the top.

A neighbor put a coiled, rubber snake at the base of his lamp post. It seems to scare the birds away.

A couple of lengths of fishing line suspended just above the horizontal rod ought to do the trick. They'll learn very quickly.

If none of the above work, there is a product that utilities use called 'bird stop' you might be able to get an 18 inch sample. It goes on with ty-raps, and has a lot of bristles pointed up that keep the birds from landing.

some stores sell a product that creates discomfort if the bird stands on it. Comes in a tube and you just lay a bead of it on the rod.

or...just hose it off every couple of days.

Next question?

I wouldn't use a hose on the name signs.....It might just get water inside the plastic casing.

But thats just me....

Reflector tape will do it. Tie several ribbons of reflector tape on the rod and the birds will not come near. Or wrap reflector tape around the light post. We use it on a fruit tree, it works. People who live on the ocean use it on their balconies to keep the seagulls off.

Okay, I just have to ask....I am sure many of you are thinking this....but...come on....at our age...are these really issues we want to worry about! Just saying! Birds fly over your roof...you don't think there is a few poop drops there too! The things that worry people amaze me! Life far too short! Just saying!

This made me laugh because I have a neighbor who is really upset about birds "pooping" on her roof..... reflective tape all over the place.......

Silicone spray applied liberally to all affected surfaces. Works for me anyway.

We had a similar problem with birds leaving a mess on the rail of our pool. Go to the Dollar store and buy a plastic snake and put it on your post. It worked for us.

Treetanglefoot. It is sort of goo used to catch bugs.
I've not seen it in years. Perhaps, because I am not looking for it.

try petroleum jelly spread on the rod, cheap and if it doesn't work just wash it off. I have used it in the past with good success.

You can purchase plastic strips that mount on the top of the sign with adhesive strips.
The barbs hardly show from the street as the are clear plastic. I feel your pain. Since installation of these plastic "barbs", we have had no landings and no mess to clean up (over 1 year).
Just do a google search to locate your choice. Works wonders and doesn't hurt the birds.

I have the exact same thing with my name plate sign. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot, & I don't know what they're called but they're plastic spikes that are about a 1/2" part that you can put on the top edge of the sign & it will keep birds from sitting on the top edge of the sign. This will work 100%. Sometimes you see these things around TV where TV have weather vanes. Just where I told you to go & tell them how I explained it to you & they'll know what you're talking about!

We use an owl to keep birds out of our breezeway and it works. The snake might work.
