Sumter County provides a free notification of severe weather. Just click on the link and scroll down to the Code Red box, click on it, and fill in the blanks.

I had signed up for the service some time ago. I have received three or four warning telephone calls from the service.

Well, they certainly had the chance to prove themselves this afternoon. I arrived home just before the rain deluge started. I walked in the house to hear a cacophony of warnings. I recently purchased a new NOAA weather radio and it was giving severe storm warnings for each surrounding county as NOAA issued them. In addition the phones were ringing as The Sumter County Public Safety computer started calling to advise of a severe storm.
Everything worked just as it was supposed to and it certainly got my attention.
I now feel much more secure that I'll receive information regarding impending weather danger.

Tornado season is coming. Just wanted to get this back out to everone.

It is a great service. Both cell and land lines rang at the same time.

If you copied what displays of the link as-is from the first post and didn't copy it as the full-blown shortcut, the abbreviated version of the link is what got copied. Hence the problem. :)
