I am trying to do a small landscape project converting sod to a Florida friendly landscape. If anyone has experience or interest in helping me, that would be appreciated.

1. You want to be sure to get a permit.
Florida friendly is a bit of a gray area. It is legal BUT,
intruding on your neighbors is not. Your neighbors may
see it as a weed patch.
PROBLEMS ARE BEST AVOIDED.
2. Soil in the villages is awful. North of 466 it is sandy clay,
south of 466 it is clayey sand. IT ALL STINKS.
When, you remove the sod, you will want to add 2-3
of organic matter and rotatill it in, Even that is not as
easy as it sounds as you certainly have buried wires,
plumbing, electrical service etc.

IMHO, you might want to call ARC just to be sure about the 'Florida friendly' landscaping, as I recall there may be different rules/requirements depending on where you live and if you have a house or a villa, as noted above, better to be safe than sorry.

Also, if you get the necessary approvals, I would contact the master gardeners and have a discussion with them, so you do not end up with a weed patch.

Hope this helps.

if you haven't been to the villages chapter of the florida native plant society here's there website. their president did this to his land so he has much experience in it and is always willing to help others.
