I want to have my rather large laundry room redone with storage units to become a large pantry, a fold down ironing board and maybe a counter to fold clothes on. I do not like vinyl covered wire shelves - prefer some wood or fiber board. Has anyone done this?- has anyone used Closets by Design? or can you recommend someone else.

We used Closets R Us in our new house to redo our master bedroom closets (getting rid of the wire shelving) and to put up storage in the garage. Juan and Virginia Cruz (the owners) are Villagers and very nice people. They use quality material and do quality work. I would highly recommend them. Phone number 255-8975.

WE have an expanded Lantana and the spare room off of the laundry area has been expanded 3 foot. We looked at all of these "closets by design" etc and were not pleased with what we saw. Everything they proposed came in certain dimensions, was mostly partical board and there was little or no leeway....plus they were very expensive. We found a General Contractor who put in custom "solid" wood adjustable shelves on one side with room for hanging light winter coats, and on the other side we have beautiful base cabinets and top cabinets with a center wine rack complete with a hard surface "corian" counter top. This arrangement provides ALOT ...I mean ALOT of extra storage/pantry space. All plugs and TV connects were moved to above counter height. Im sure if you know what you want be it an ironing board or even a wine cooler, it could be done. We are very pleased with the work and subsequently we had this contractor do Crown Moulding, a custom work bench in the garage, and finally a 10 foot wall to wall entertainemnt center custom built around a 52in LCD. Could not be happier!! He has done major Lanai work for a number of of our neighbors and all have been pleased.

I used Closets by Design to put cabinets/shelves, etc., in both my den and living room. Absolutely wonderful work.

But, 784 is right: they are expensive, and there can be issues of flexibility in measurements.

I'd had similar work done up north by different company, so knew pretty precisely what I wanted here. Aside from one small misunderstanding (quickly resolved), I remain very happy with their work (4-1/2 years ago).
