How about a system found at car washes that will take the golf cart across without needing driver input. I would also suggest clear panels to be able to see the surrounding from on high. Make sure that it’s wide enough that a car can pass through by mistake. What are your thoughts?:ho:

I think it should be an exact reproduction of the original historic Bridge, just 12 inches narrower.

It eliminates driver error, but the back up from the "hook on" point would be 3 miles long. Just make the cart lane wide enough that even a moderately below average driver can navigate it. Anyone with less ability should stay off the bridge (and everywhere else for that matter)

I agree. Poor auto and cart operators don't need any more encouragement!:agree:

Make it wider! Maybe have ramps going up and then a 90 degree turn onto the flat bridge across the highway. Like the idea of being able to see the surround area from on high.

A system somewhat like you're suggesting is in use at Hernando Beach, but with boats. Many canal lots were built and owners installed docks and keep their boat in the backyard. However, the canals go nowhere, they are fresh water. They must go through a boat lift system that picks up the boat and takes it across land to the gulf water canals. Then they are able to cruise out into the Gulf of Mexico. It's a very time consuming operation and when the lift breaks, no one can get out.
The best answer would be a roadway next to the current road or a tunnel. I believe a bridge going over top the turnpike would be a much more dangerous situation.

NOT wide enough to accommodate a car! Some nut job will try anyway. No clear sides - that just contributes to dwaddling - it would also be a distraction to vehicles driving under it.

Why???? Does it really matter if you fall 40 feet onto a concrete roadway with traffic at 55mph vs. 60 feet with traffic at 75 mph?? Yes, you do get about an extra 0.43 seconds to say good-bye

The way I see it, build a bridge over 44, just like the one over 27/441 in Spanish Springs. Hopefully, I will not get something started here but, it should be more younger villagers. Hopefully the younger villagers will not speed over the bridge or try to pass someone while traveling over it!

Have a place to pull over (like the sunset area on Lake Sumter) so people can pull over and watch traffic and sunsets......................You know they are going to.

I propose a quantum box on each side of the bridge...you enter the box, think other-side-of-bridge. Exit box... you're on other side of bridge. :)

If the complainers on TOTV have their way, each bridge over RT 44 will have a sign painted on the sides, "Don't stop here. Keep driving until you see salt water."

Four lanes in each direction for all the cart traffic.

A bridge is simply an overpass. It needs to be high enough for 18 wheelers to pass under and wide enough for 2 vehicles (carts) to comfortably pass each other going in opposite directions.

I hope it has a separate smaller pathway separated from the cart paths for bikers and walkers

I would suspect the volume of traffic over these new bridges would be at least double the volume of carts using the old bridge. I would hope the bridges have a newer design with better features. The integration of foot and bicycle traffic on the bridges may be needed as that is a feature of the new areas down south.

A simple concrete deck, 'integral' type bridge would suffice.
It would be similar (in looks) to the existing Bailey Rd. bridge, that is just south of the Okahumpka Service Plaza over the Florida Turnpike.
The reason the arch bridge over 27/441 was built like it was, is because of the amount of area it would have taken to building the approaches on both sides...in making the bridge deck itself level.
Any bridge over 44...will not be so constrained.
My guess is that the developer will actually make it wide enough to get a pickup truck over it in addition to golf carts...so as to be able to more conveniently service landscaping, utilities, etc.
Not really a big deal at all.

I heard it will be a toll bridge, but will accept sunpass.

What, no tunnel suggestions?
I am thinking that tunneling under a divided 4 lane turnpike, would be much more problematic (and expensive?), plus it would be hard to make it large enough to get a pickup sized vehicle from one side to the other...which I believe will be something they will want with this crossing.
I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Since they have already announced it will be a bridge, I guess people didn't feel the need to discuss tunnels.

Per the Engineering firm "Horny and Paymemore", keep the bridge narrow with a clear glass road surface. No stripes not necessary.

Now, that would be cool and you could locate the boxes throughout the Villages to transport you and your cart

Really, you need a restaurant at the top so people can make comments on the food, service, noise, etc as they pass through.

The bridge will need some type of barrier system to keep those that complain all the time about the greedy developers and no build-out in sight from jumping off the bridge.

Need a net like they are installing on the Golden Gate Bridge

That's a good idea. The restaurant at the top can be located in the middle of a roundabout. Safer than most since it only need two exits.

:a040::a040::a040: I agree! The Village developers have forgotten walkers and sidewalks in so many places.
