Subject: Sign Up to Attend NRLN Villages Chapter Meeting on Aug. 24

Leaders of the Villages Chapter of the National Retiree Legislative Network (NRLN) have lined up a program for the Thursday, Aug. 24 quarterly meeting that we think you won’t want to miss. The meeting will be at Laurel Manor Recreation Center, 1985 Laurel Manor Drive. A “meet and greet” with refreshments will begin at 3:00 p.m. and the program will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Please let me know that you plan to attend. Go to: NRLN Village Chapter Meeting - Thursday, August 24, 2017 Survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/villages24)
to register and indicate whether your spouse and/or friends will attend with you.

Carolyn Reichel, Chapter Director of Heath Care Education, and Jim Bodenner, Chapter Director of Retirement Planning, will present information regarding the status of Medicare for the 2017 enrollment and the Long Term Care crisis that will affect many of us as retirees and caregivers.

NRLN President Bill Kadereit, joins us again after being with us at our February meeting. He will talk about House Speaker Paul Ryan’s “Premium Support” plan in the House Budget Resolution that will end Medicare, including Medicare Advantage Plans within five years, and NRLN’s “Grand Bargain” proposal and petition to President Trump signed by 7,000 NRLN members that would use the opportunity of tax reform to fund Medicare and Social Security for the next 75 years. The proposal will be advocated on Capitol Hill during the NRLN Fly-In on September 11-13.

We invited U.S. Representative Daniel Webster or a member of his staff to speak at our meeting. Although Congress is in recess all of August, we don’t have a response yet from Congressman Webster or a member in his local office. More on this later!

I will attend the Fly-In and lobby for these issues along with protecting retirees’ pensions in corporate mergers, acquisitions and spinoffs plus urge our Florida members of Congress to support passage of the bills that would reduce the cost of prescription drugs.

Bill will introduce Chis Dyrda, NRLN Vice President – Southeast Region. Chris, a former board member of the National Chrysler Retirement Organization who lives in the Atlanta area, will be supporting leaders of the NRLN Villages Chapter as they work to grow the Chapter.

I think you will find that attending the Chapter’s Thursday, Aug. 24 meeting will be worth your time. I look forward to seeing you.

Ray Pasternak, President, NRLN Villages Chapter
